Inside the theater

Kristen & Rob's Interview with Flicks and Bits

How was it for you getting your head around the psychological aspect of Bella becoming a vampire, and her powers?

Kristen Stewart: I was really, really excited about developing Bella’s vamp thing. And not just the look, I know people are obsessed with the look and all of that, but really, for me, she’s definitely my favourite vampire – I like her powers the best. Bella doesn’t even realize she has these really enormous talents, she discredits everything she’s got. Even though she makes fun of it, her super self-control is actually probably the coolest power in the series. Also she can project her shield, like a membrane. Bella can protect anyone who steps within that, and any other vampy power has no effect on her whatsoever, which is why Edward cannot read her mind. It all starts to click why it’s been so difficult, why they’ve been drawn together, and why she’s been such a mystery to him….all of that makes sense now. It was really interesting.

It’s a pretty happy beginning for Edward in ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,’ and fatherhood has its own psychological affect on Edward, in a good way….

Robert Pattinson: Yeah. The beginning of ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 starts off with a pretty happy moment again (laughs). All of the tribulations from before have ended up with everything being ok. Bella’s made the change into a vampire without a hitch really. The only worry is that Bella worries about how she’s going to behave as a vampire, is she going to go crazy? Especially because she’s stronger than all the Cullen’s put together at the beginning. You find out very rapidly that she’s very much in control of herself and finds it even easier than anybody else when they’ve been turned into a vampire. It’s a very happy beginning. With Edward, when he has a child, I think it’s such an irreplaceable union that he doesn’t just think about himself any more, he thinks of himself being him, Bella and Renesmee. So it becomes a different thing, I guess he grows up quite a bit. He stops being so self-obsessed.

Renesmee becomes a big part of this story and the development of Bella….

Kristen Stewart: Yeah. Renesmee is a really, really special little kid. She has her own way of communicating, she somehow passes a tonne of information, sensory information – that’s how Bella and really talk to each other. It’s awesome to see because she develops so young and so quickly, you see a mother communicate with her infant child more so than we would be able to in real life. I’m sure every mother feels that they’re speaking to their children, but Bella and Renesmee really are speaking to each other in this mythical way. I was so excited to see how that looks visually.

How was it for you acting opposite Mackenzie Foy in that role?

Robert Pattinson: Mackenzie’s great. She’s very self-possessed for a really young girl. She’s really smart, she’s really talented. She’s had to do very difficult things. She’s playing the face on the body of maybe 15 other young girls of varying sizes, which is very, very difficult to do for any actor, let alone a young girl who’s doing her first movie. She’s very funny. She’s taught us a lot of things about life and how to be polite to people. She’s very professional and likes to have her swear bucks. She made a lot of money off me and Kristen (laughs).

Kristen Stewart: We are so lucky to have Mackenzie. When you work with good actors, everything just becomes more real and natural for you and you create a more complete environment – it just lives within it. Mackenzie is so smart and she loves doing this. She’s never out of it, she probably knows more about what’s going on and what the next shot is than most other actors on set. She’s amazingly cool and I’m very proud to have her be playing my daughter (laughs).

While Edward has a better understanding of what is happening between Jacob and Renesmee, Bella is sort of blindsided by that dynamic?

Robert Pattinson: Obviously it causes a lot of problems in the Cullen household considering Jacob’s imprinted before Bella has even seen her own kid. I think because Edward can read Jacob’s mind and he knows a little bit about imprinting, and he’s kind of certain that Jacob wouldn’t necessarily be attracted to a newborn baby if he wasn’t kind of forced by his genes into doing it (laughs). So he kind of has a quicker understanding of it than Bella does. Bella has to go purely on trust.

While the other Vampire and Werewolf characters have had a feral and animalistic side to them throughout the ‘Twilight’ movies, this is Bella’s first time with that aspect to her – and it’s very much channeled in the new protective, maternal side to her.

Kristen Stewart: It was fun to throw Taylor around because Taylor’s not only the best at getting thrown around, so I wasn’t scared of hurting him, but it definitely makes you feel very empowered when you flick him and he flies across a forest (laughs). The cool thing about that moment was that it came from a very instinctive, protective, maternal….something that I’ve never experienced but I can feel it, having to play with it for a bit – I obviously don’t have a child to protect (laughs), but I can sort of feel it. Everyone’s toyed around with being very feral and crazy and aggressive, it’s fun to do, for blood lust and anger and all of that. But more so for protecting the child, that’s fun. That just takes it to a whole new level. It’s a lot of fun to play because I feel like there’s nothing you’ll fight for harder than your kid.

There’s been a large ensemble cast for each of the ‘Twilight’ movies, yet ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 takes it to a next level. How was that for you?

Robert Pattinson: We’ve had the same cast for years, so it’s such a huge change having like 70 people on this one – it’s kind of amazing. There are some really great actors, really great people and it’s interesting because it gives it a very epic feel, which is nice for the final one of the series. Also, really nice people seem to be attracted to be in the cast of Twilight movies. And this one, it suddenly turned into an action movie at the end. I did a few stunts, like the one where I did a jump on a wire, which was pretty fun.

Bella starts the ‘Twilight’ series as pretty awkward, shy, and clumsy. Yet in this film she’s evolved into a fiercely protective mother and powerful vampire. How has that arc been to play?

Kristen Stewart: I am so very human in the ‘Twilight’ series, I’m full of idiosyncrasies. Being a clumsy person is not always the easiest thing to do, and also, the way that I usually learn my lines, I learn the idea, then I find the words and they come out – which is why I stutter a lot in ‘Twilight.’ That’s something that I liked. But now it’s just a really different way of approaching movement and talking in a scene. I have to approach it completely differently because Bella’s mind now works so fast. Bella has had clear insecurities that show – which is really, really good for the series because at this point, to be really still, to be so controlled and to know that your mind works faster now, in that before you speak you already know what you are saying, before you move you are already there mentally. It’s like its already happened, that was interesting to portray.

In the book, the hunt was my favourite. I loved how alive she became. The idea was really clearly stated in the book that, as a vampire, Bella is different and she is special – you could feel it instantly. Everything’s easy for her. Now she’s excelling. It’s been really awesome to conceptually play that I am the strongest person in the room (laughs). That had an effect on how I stand next to these big huge guys, who are clearly stronger than me. I got to do wire work and kick people. It feels good to get physical, because I’ve always literally stood behind people.

‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 explores the vampire world beyond the romance of Bella and Edward….

Rober Pattinson: Yeah. This one, it’s a lot bigger. The story spans the globe and encompasses many different characters, showing the variety of powers and abilities vampires can have. It shows a huge amount of the vampire world. Many, many different character. It shows how many different powers and abilities vampire’s can have. And is also it’s about the fulfillment of Bella’s character, first seeing her as a vampire is going to be a powerful moment. It’s very interesting.

Kristen Interview with LeFigaro (France) About Cannes/OTR

For the first time in his career, Kristen Stewart is in competition at Cannes for the film On the road.

At 21, star of Twilight is in official competition at Cannes. It vampirizes screen in the role of Marylou, the heroine of On the Road by Walter Salles, the adaptation of the novel by Jack Kerouac. She has the game in the blood. Interview by Emmanuele Frois.

LE FIGARO -You compete in Cannes On the road from Walter Salles . And Robert Pattinson with Cosmopolis of David Cronenberg . Between you it is competition or rather a game?

KRISTEN STEWART - (laughs) Between us there is no problem! And we consider it as a game It's so incredible, unthinkable, crazy ending up the same year in Cannes, in competition, as we have just finished Twilight ! It's strange ...

Fate?

- (Laughs). I do not know. Maybe ...

What led you to the film by Walter Salles On the road , adaptation of the work of Jack Kerouac ?

I am committed to this project for five years. I read the novel by Jack Kerouac at 15. It was on my list of books to school. Intstinctivement, I immediately selected. This is the first book to have lit a flame in me and giving me a taste for lecture.Tout therefore began with Jack!

What do you think Marylou, the heroine who was inspired by LuAnne Henderson?

She was never afraid of anything. For many young girls, including myself, many times our actions are guided by fear. Even today, it would be considered quequ'un unique. She had an ability to love, generosity of spirit. She was not a rebel or persuaded to be a pioneer or a girl avant-garde. She was just herself.

Filming of Twilight is over. Chapter 5, Part 2 Revelation , released November 14. Relief?

We redid the catch because I had hurt myself. Then, we will promote for its release. I'll have to talk about Twilight to end my day! I'm sure! Twilight represents a long and important in my life.

Rob on 'Breaking Dawn' and mentions Kristen in Access Hollywood interview

When Shaun asked what director Bill Condon left on the cutting room floor, Robert suggested it was things done by his leading lady – K-Stew.

“It was more the noises. It was Kristen’s fault, really. I was just doing standard stuff,” Robert replied, trying not to look like the guilty party.

“I was just kind of going through the motions – breaking the headboard, I just kept breaking the headboard repeatedly,” he carried on, laughing. “Kristen was just over the top. It was just too much… Her wig [was] falling off.”

Before the bedroom scene between Robert’s Edward Cullen and Kristen’s Bella Swan-turned-Cullen, the two characters had to marry and the Brit said filming the giant nuptials was a day he’ll remember for a long time.

“It was really sweet. There was a big build [up] of excitement because there were a lot of new cast as well who came in and everyone knew it was a big deal,” Robert said. “There were all these paparazzi helicopters flying around, so everyone was kind of excited. But, it looks a lot prettier in the movie than it was in reality.”

And Robert continues to insist – even though none of his cast mates support him on the matter – that the man who married Edward and Bella on screen was the real deal.

”[He] was a real priest and Kristen’s going around saying it wasn’t a real priest,” Robert said. “It was a real priest. They were wrong, they weren’t paying attention, they were just thinking about themselves.”

While a giant, on-screen wedding can sway an actor’s feelings in real life, Robert is pretty firm on his beliefs about walking down the aisle.

“I don’t feel like marriage is that big a deal,” he told Shaun. “It just seems very simple… It’s like having a big birthday party. It’s like, if you wanna throw a really elaborate birthday party for your girlfriend, it’s kind of the same deal.”

Kristen and Rob's Vanity Fair Italy interview

Translated Transcript

First Question: and you, what do you think about weddings?
Rob: I don't know until now, I've been around twenty funerals and just 2 weddings, certainly for what I saw they're more fun than the funerals.

but, didn't you got emotional after the ring exchange?

Rob: the truth? I think that the major part of the men who get married, live the same kind of experience: you stay there, waiting.. the wedding day is a woman's thing, it's their day. It was different for Kristen: the dress, walking to the altar, the music. I got away with an "you are very pretty, let's get married!"
Kristen: I have to admit it, I felt like a real bride: at the center of the attention, in a wonderful dress.. for that scene everybody had to leave their phones before entering: the dress had to be kept a secret.

In the movie there's also a sex scene, it was hard to film it?!
Kristen: To be honest it was funny to shoot, when there's confidence with someone everything comes naturally
Rob: It was more embarrassing to take off my shirt near Taylor, have you seen his abs?! I felt like a loser.

there's everything in this movie: sex, wedding, the honeymoon..
Kristen: yes, in Brazil. But since that we (of Twilight) are pro in programming stuffs, we went there during the rainy season. It was fun tho.
Rob: yeah: the honeymoon was really fun even if it was always raining.

and then you have a kid…

Rob: I'm not the one who gives birth.
Kristen: the baby bump was huge, unusually lightweight

How did you felt being pregnant?
Kristen: do I have to be honest? not particularly sexy

the sex, honeymoon and the kid were all good: wasn't there something about Twilight that you hated?!
Rob: contact lenses, a torture and I'll definitely not miss them
Kristen: I agree: terrible and painful, but I particularly hated them because you couldn't watch people directly in the eyes, the humanity aspect was off in someway

you have shot all the Twilight movies, so is over for you. but everybody else have to wait until the second part of BD.. How do you feel about it?!
Rob: Are you sure it's over? it depends on Stephenie Meyer. I'll say it right now, if she writes a sequel, I'll be in.
Kristen: it will be over only when we'll talk about it using the past tense. It's been a really important part of my life: I was 17 when it started and now I'm 21. And finally I can legally drink.

and your dreams, before Twilight?
Kristen: Let's see: I didn't move to Sydney, the city I love the most, and I think I'll not do it for quite some time. I really wanted to continue studying, but that was in the past. Right now I'm happy like this.. ah yeah I still write.
Rob: When I was a kid I wanted to be a pianist in a restaurant in the south of France. I went there with my dad, and I saw a relaxed man in a smoking playing, with a glass of Whiskey on the piano. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. I'll admit it: what it happened to me with Twilight, it's not the life I thought I would have .

New interview with Kristen & Rob with 15a20 Magazine (Mexico)

Kristen's interview

Everytime I interview Kristen I’m surprised at how beautiful she is. Perfect skin, not a drop of make up. She’s wearing jeans, a grey shirt, sneakers, definitely the same Kristen, but much more comfortable than three years ago when I first interviewed her for Twilight, where she was very nervous, fidgeting on her seat.

You character goes through a lot in this movie. She gets married, she has sex, she has a baby, she becomes a vampire…
I know, that why they had to split the movie in two (laughs).

What was the most difficult part of filming this movie?
It’s a moment that I’ve been waiting for so long. Every single thing that happened in the previous movies was amplified this time, because of all the pressure and the people waiting fo the movie, and especially because these are very iconic moments in the saga, and we need to make justice to them, which is a little terrifying, but you need to feel that way, you need to be afraid because fear gives you the strength to carry on important tasks.

What can fans expect this time?
Personally, I love the beginning because it’s the first time you meet Edward and Bella, and they’re having fun, everything is so light and happy at first, but now she has to deal with different issues because she’s married, they now have problems with each other, and one of them is she’s having this baby, and he wants to kill the baby/fetus (laughs). And for the first time, the perspective changes to Jacob’s, and nobody else’s.

How did you prepare for the movie?
I did the same thing I always do, basically. In the books Stephenie gives a very visceral description of events, and she was on the set all the time, which was great, because only she knows these characters so well.I just took the best of the book and tried to play it.

What was your favorite part?
The wedding, because everybody was waiting to film it, and part of it felt very real, so it was very emotional.

What can you share about the sex scene?
Oh, God! The sex was a big deal. There’s so many things going on: the wedding, the first time and giving birth. The sex scene was filmed almost right at the beginning of filming, so that part was over quickly, thank God.

Right at the beginning of filming?
Yes, it was one of the first scenes we did, we shot the two movies at the same time, so I can only talk about the first movie, but we had to show how vampires have sex differently, and then we shot the first time they have sex as vampires, and that’s a huge deal too. The funny thing is that there’s no description in the book, so we could improvise.

As an actor, was it difficult to shoot these scenes with Rob?
Yes, filming these scenes was weird. In the end I didn’t feel like we had filmed a sex scene, because we were both so uncomfortable and insecure, and because it’s something very subjective. There’s times when there’s weird close ups, and everybody has such high expectations for these scenes.

So giving birth was easy in comparison, right?
Oh, it was just as hard. Those three things: wedding, sex, baby, were very hard.

The saga ends next year, what are you going to miss the most?
It might sound silly to say everything, but it’s the truth. The entire experience, working with Taylor and Rob, I won’t be filming scenes with them anymore, and that’s so weird because we’ve spent so much time doing this. And at the same time, it’s over, there’s nothing more to do, and that’s okay.

Rob's Interview

What was it like working with Bill Condon?
He’s a director that likes to get involved, and he’s also a writer, so he can adapt things in the moment. Something very cool is that before everything used to be so strict ‘This is how it’s in the book, this is how it’s going to be in the film,’ but sometimes things don’t look as good onscreen as they do in paper, so Bill was very daring in interpreting some things differently.

What was your personal challenge for this movie?
The most interesting thing is that my character is very different in this movie. Out of all the Twilight books, I always thought this was the weirdest, because Edward is so impulsive and he makes so many big mistakes, while the rest are thinking and planning carefully. When I read the book I thought, ‘God, what is Edward doing?’, and I didn’t like what he was doing at all, and in one way is a lot more fun to play him that way. He’s careless, selfish, he has no idea at all what he’s doing, and he’s left in pieces, including his relationship with Bella. I really liked playing him this time.

We need to talk about the most important part in this movie, the sex scene, what was that like for you?
The sex scene is never described in the book, so every single person who read it had their own idea in their mind. The entire time we were filming it we thought ‘We have to make this look spectacular to everyone,’ and we were thinking on how to meet people’s expectations. But you also worry about how you’re going to look, I had never been so worried about that before, but after seeing how much Taylor works out for the movies, I thought ‘Well, everybody is really going to judge me now,’ (laughs loudly). I always tried to think about positions where where I could tense the muscles, and suck in my belly… Ok, I think I just gave the most vain answer I could come up with.

So, you were worried about taking your shirt off?
Well, yeah. Especially because in this saga the body of the characters seems to be a big deal. So in this movie I thought, ‘OK, it’s the last one, I’m getting a six pack,’ and I tried, but it’s VERY hard. I worked out so hard for 6 months, so after filming the sex scene the first thing I thought was ‘Time to eat!’.

And when you were finally filming the scene, what happened?
Bill helped us a lot. I knew it would be a very important and scary scene for Kristen and for me, so he gave us many ideas, because like I said, the book just describes the morning after and that’s it, so we had to play what happened before like in True Blood, but in the end everything came out great, we shot several scenes and the cuts were edited just perfect.

You mentioned True Blood, were you worried about making this movie unlike True Blood?
Yes. I haven’t seen much of the series, but people tell me Twilight is about abstinence, and about vampires not killing people, and True Blood is a total blood bath, more gory, and in this last movie the characters finally have passionate moments and, blah blah blah. So everybody obviously wonders ‘How do vampires have sex?’ and it’s difficult to put that in a scene and actually make it trascendental. I think that’s something that would be weird to see in this saga, without making it, you know, dirty. Am I making sense? (we both laugh). I don’t think I answered that question, we were just talking about sex (laughs).

Let’s talk about the wedding, Kristen’s dress, all the details…
Yes, the weddings are all about the girl, right? I was just standing there, waiting (laughs). Kristen was going crazy with the dress and everything, and I just kept thinking ‘I have to wear this stupid suit!’.

How has Kristen evolved all these years as an actress?
Well, she became an adult. She was 17 when we started, she’s 21 now. Her personality has changed a lot. As an actress, she’s always been very confident, that’s why I laugh when people say she’s shy. She’s not shy at all (laughs).

This year Harry Potter ended and the premiere was extremely emotional, how do you think the final premiere of Twilight will be like next year?
Harry Potter is different because they started so young. I can’t even remember what I was doing when I was 8. We made other movies every time we finished a Twilight movie. It’s very different for us.

How do you feel about your career? Is this a closing chapter and on to the next one?
I’m a very paranoid person, and I feel like if I don’t keep making movies, everything will be over quickly and I’ll have a mental breakdown. So I just think about working and never stop working until people stop hiring me (laughs).

Seriously, you still think ‘this will be my last job’?
Totally. I always think the same thing. When I take a new role I think, ‘Oh, no, this is what people are going to think about me,’ but when I’m on the set I have an amazing time.

Taylor's Interview

What was like shooting the final scene?
It was hard. The last scene I shot with Rob and Kristen was me dancing with her at her wedding, and it was very emotional because we were saying goodbye. So it was a hard scene to shoot, saying goodbye. And my very last scene in the movies was when I’m crying because I think Bella is dead, so I leave the house running, crying, I’m going crazy. So my final scenes were not happy scenes, I was very sad the whole time.

What do you like the most about Kristen?
We’re very close, she’s very special to me. She’s definitely one of my best friends. An amazing person.

Charisma Carpenter mentions Rob & Kristen's chemistry

TVLINE | Lastly, do you kind of have to laugh at the vampire craze that is so hot these days, when you and the Scoobies were doing it like 15 years ago?
I’m not surprised. I deduce the popularity to be all about the chemistry between the people. On Twilight, the chemistry between Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart … I mean, clearly they’re together [in real life], and it’s palpable in the way they look at each other. That’s what drew everybody in and made Twilight so incredibly popular. It is about that universal feeling of love and connection, understanding and protection, and sex, and that’s so visceral in Twilight. As far as True Blood goes, what I’ve seen of it is very sexy and raw. That cover they did for Rolling Stone brought out a dual side of me — offended that my son would see it on the one hand, yet intrigued by how daring it was with the sexuality on display. All that, plus blood.

Boo Boo Stewart talks about Kristen & Rob "...they're just always so laid back."

"It was weird. I was sitting there and I was like, 'This is actually really touching," Boo Boo, 17, told Us Weekly. "I think [Billy Burke] made that scene really great because he had to walk her down the aisle, and I think he really did a great job."

Though Kristen, 21, and Pattinson, 25, have become household names thanks to their roles as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, BooBoo assures Us they're still the same low-key couple they've always been.

"Since I've met them, for the past two years, they're exactly the same," he said. "It's not like I get to hang out with them all the time, but every time I've been with them, it doesn't matter how crazy the situation is, they're just always so laid-back."
