I’ve always enjoyed body horror and quite violent films. It wasn’t, like, a full story I’d had in my head for a long time. A lot of the writing process felt spontaneous and slightly experimental. The initial spark was wanting to tell something about a female bodybuilder because it seemed like both visually and psychologically interesting territory. I’m very obviously not a bodybuilder and probably incredibly physically frail and pathetic and weedy. So I find it impressive and fascinating, the psychology it must take to be a bodybuilder.</p><p><b>Why a bodybuilder instead of another kind of athlete?</b></p><p>Glass: I’d seen photos from the ’40s or ’50s, before bodybuilding was a competitive sport, at least for women. At that point, strong women were more of a sideshow attraction. These women had amazing ’50s pin-curl hair-dos and incredible muscular physiques, and the visual juxtaposition was intriguing to me. The more I found out about it, the more it seemed like this slightly anarchic but beautiful, strange sport, which is as much a performance art as a sport. It’s an aesthetic sport. So I wondered about the psychology it takes to do something like that, how that can either clash with or spill over into other elements of their life. And falling in love seemed like an appropriately derailing kind of chaos to throw somebody into when they’re otherwise very driven and focused.</p><p><b>Katy, you’ve competed in bodybuilding. Was Rose’s vision of that world accurate to you?</b></p><p>Katy O’Brian: At least with the people I know, there’s certainly less murder. [Laughs.] It takes focus and discipline and can be obsessive. You have a weird relationship with food, where you’re counting and weighing calories. And it can be isolating because you can’t go out and enjoy a meal with your friends – you have to stick to your routine. I’m a live-by-moderation type of person, but I know a lot of people who had liver or kidney failure.</p><p><b>Did you connect with Jackie on a personal level?</b></p><p>O’Brian: We’re both from the Midwest, and it’s still weird being a bodybuilder there. CrossFit has helped because it’s such a sensation and everybody’s getting bigger. But even recently someone there came up to me on the street and just touched my muscles. Female bodybuilding started out as a circus attraction, and I guess it still feels unnatural to some people, especially in a place that’s more conservative.</p><p>Bodybuilding is something Jackie loves, and it makes her feel safe, but a lot of people reject that – it’s more like she’s doing this freaky thing to her body. In acting, I’ve been told I’m too big for roles that are literally asking for bodybuilders or I get a butch characterisation because they don’t feel like muscles are feminine.</p><p><b>What were some of the film’s references?</b></p><p>Glass: I suggested people should watch David Cronenberg’s Crash, Showgirls, and Saturday Night Fever, and the tiny Venn-diagram crossover was the cinematic universe the film might take place in – dark, melodramatic, sexy films. I tried to avoid watching the more Americana cornerstones of Thelma & Louise and Wild at Heart until after we’d made it so I didn’t get too referential.</p><p><b>Why set the film in the 1980s? Could it have taken place today?</b></p><p>Glass: One of the main reasons for putting it in the past was wanting it to be pre-internet or pre-social media. What I liked about doing it before everyone became so connected is that it heightens the fact that both Lou and Jackie are misfits and alone. They’re both from different small towns, very isolated, and haven’t found their people because they’re not physically around them. So when the two cross paths, there’s recognition there.</p><p>The year 1989 was right before anabolic steroids became illegal, so in the film there’s a naivete to how they’re being handled. And this excess of the ’80s and more, bigger just before the ’90s, when everyone becomes more nihilistic – I thought Jackie’s the ’80s and Lou’s the ’90s, a love story between a romantic and a cynic.</p><p><b>Katy, you’re an accomplished martial artist, and one of the leads of True Detective: Night Country, Kali Reis, is a former pro boxer. Is there something about this moment that’s particularly primed for depictions of complex women whose physical strength is also foregrounded?</b></p><p>O’Brian: Hollywood has made a big push to be more supportive of female writers and directors. These aren’t things that are weird to us – a lot of women box, go to the gym, work out.</p><p>Glass: The way that both Katy and Kristen appear in this film shouldn’t be radical. There are many women who look like both these characters. How people are responding to seeing them as main characters versus how unextraordinary it is in real life – the fact that’s such a stark contrast just highlights the homogeneity that, as everyone’s well aware, has been present in films for a long time.</p><p><b>The film also has a real playfulness and sexiness in its depiction of desire, even amid all the menace and violence.</b></p><p>Glass: There’s a lot of queer films in particular, and a certain type of tasteful period lesbian film, where all the looking is done very secretly and with longing in a sense of forbiddenness. So I enjoyed that here they’re both more horny and blatant. When Lou sees Jackie across the gym, if I’m referencing anything there, it’s the bit in The Mask where Jim Carrey sees Cameron Diaz across the bank. It was fun to lean into the silliness.</p><p><a href="https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/love-lies-bleeding?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_social-type=owned" target="_blank">Source</a></p>TeamKristenSitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18275780749223413134noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5733730820934625084.post-49867396442610404972024-03-15T19:32:00.000-07:002024-03-15T19:32:15.304-07:00Rose Glass talks to People about 'Love Lies Bleeding' and mentions Kristen<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV0ij5Ra70fTCtkZ6DWZlD5Z0FAWT7Q1lb99BkZM0wk5FiF6ca390vlqu5NYkm5k2OslOB76WEgcPkZO8hAOvxi0SleoLh3LD7NETGcjFLeDzptAZaUoINEhirj72JAc8FZvT_jks3UZA-6vQqvvrLE9_xidj0vp7E3fQAbPzkCDaym6eGgowcSAG1vgEp/s750/kristen-stewart-rose-glass-love-is-bleeding-031524--03e80a9369d14227a5c7651520337f6b.webp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="750" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV0ij5Ra70fTCtkZ6DWZlD5Z0FAWT7Q1lb99BkZM0wk5FiF6ca390vlqu5NYkm5k2OslOB76WEgcPkZO8hAOvxi0SleoLh3LD7NETGcjFLeDzptAZaUoINEhirj72JAc8FZvT_jks3UZA-6vQqvvrLE9_xidj0vp7E3fQAbPzkCDaym6eGgowcSAG1vgEp/w400-h266/kristen-stewart-rose-glass-love-is-bleeding-031524--03e80a9369d14227a5c7651520337f6b.webp" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p>Kristen Stewart has a "dorky" side that shined through on the set of Love Lies Bleeding.</p><p>Director Rose Glass tells PEOPLE that the Twilight alum, 33, has a "good sense of humor" and is "kind of dorky in a really lovely way."</p><p>"Considering how super famous she is and considering the sort of surreal, strange life she must have had, she's about as grounded and cool a person as you could be, given all that," says Glass, who co-wrote the film with Weronika Tofilska.</p><p>"She's very focused and unpretentious and just good fun," the Saint Maud filmmaker adds.</p><p>In Love Lies Bleeding, Oscar nominee Stewart plays Lou, a gym manager in the 1980s who keeps mostly to herself until she falls for a bodybuilder (Jackie, played by Katy O'Brian) who's new to town.</p><p>The pair get tangled up in crimes connected to Lou's estranged father, Lou Sr. (Ed Harris), that tests their love and commitment for each other. What did it take to convince her to do the movie?</b></p><p>RG: Luckily she saw Saint Maud and really liked it. Now that we're doing press for this film, she's said I could have offered her anything and she would have done it, which is nice. I met her when she came to London to promote Spencer and we had what I thought was a really bad meeting, I thought I came across very badly and got unexpectedly really starstruck and tongue tied. But anyway, she was up for it.</p><p>Katy, I read you heard about the part of Jackie because a friend tagged you in something on Instagram. When you actually got your hands on the script, what were your first reactions?</p><p>KO: I got my hands on the script after my first audition. So I didn't know anything really in that first audition except that it's this queer Midwestern girl going for a bodybuilding competition, and I was like, well, that's me, so I'm just gonna do me. Then when I when I finally read the script, I was terrified. Jackie goes through a lot. She does a lot of shitty things in this movie. I've not done scenes this violent before. I haven't done scenes as intimate before, but also I haven't had scenes that are so fucking embarrassing. I was like, Okay, I have to do this project. This is the thing that's either going to help me as an actor or tell me I don't want to do this anymore.</p><p><b>How did you both know the pairing of Katy and Kristen would work?</b></p><p>RG: They met for the first time when we did the chemistry reads. We saw a couple of other people read with Kristen, but the thing that clinched it was seeing the two of them together and just being like, Oh, you can really see something there. The chemistry thing is so unquantifiable. There has to be this extra spark of something.</p><p>KO: We're both such awkward people that we could work as our characters and people are like, Oh my god, this is amazing. You must be like, so tight. And then offset we're like, so, um, how are you today? We're just like really awkward people. It was fun to see her process and the way that she builds up her energy and nervousness. She has to really physically manifest that, running around jumping up and down and getting into that moment, she gets really anxious and she stays in that elevated state.</p><p>RG: They both really embody the yin and yang of the characters. Katy's incredibly strong and powerful and Kristen's the weak, frail one. But Katy brings this really important softness and vulnerability and sweetness to Jackie. Kristen brings a real hard, moody antihero kind of vibe. It's a very complimentary couple.</p><p><b>Katy, what was your favorite moment working together?</b></p><p>KO: There's a scene where Kristen and I push a car off a cliff, but our stunt doubles did that. They were like, it's not safe, and we were like, we want to push that car off a cliff. But Kristen got throw real Molotov cocktails off of the ridge. So the car is already on fire from below. And then Kristen throws a Molotov cocktail over, so it explodes. And we feel the explosion from the top of this ridge. Those reactions are genuine. We were not expecting that much fire to come back up.</p><p><b>And luckily for this role, you're already someone who is absolutely shredded. But what further prep did you have to do?</b></p><p>KO: I was given two weeks notice that I booked the project, so they hooked me up with my trainer two weeks beforehand. I was grateful I already had the muscle because then we were in the cutting phase. I tend to do bodybuilding workouts year round anyway, but not as intense. So in reality, if you're going to be competitive, you have to think of it as like a year-round thing. You're eating to grow muscle in the offseason. And then you're very slowly cutting fat. My trainer is really good at training people for film. So he knows okay, this is the muscle that a camera is gonna see better, so he really knows how to train you for the camera lens. And it's different than training for stage. So he was able to do some cool things with my muscles to make them pop on camera.</p><p><b>A lot of people are praising this movie for how horny it is, but I want to dig into that a little deeper. Rose, how much does that factor into your process when writing the script? Did you want to write a "horny" movie?</b></p><p>RG: I knew I wanted to make something sweaty and violent. So the sweat came first and the visceral bodyness. But then very quickly in writing it me and Weronika Tofilska, my writing partner, decided it should be a love story. If you've got sweaty, muscle-y, greasy people taking a bunch of drugs and falling in love, probably they're gonna have some interesting, fun sex as well.</p><p><b>What was it like for both of you to work with an intimacy coordinator, both in front of and behind the camera?</b></p><p>RG: I was a little apprehensive that it would feel like somebody else was taking over, but it's kind of like working with a stunt coordinator. You try to be as specific as you can in writing the scenes, like, hand goes here, head goes there. I talk with the intimacy coordinator about each scene and clarify with them exactly how I'm thinking of shooting it. And then she basically has separate meetings with both the actors and they have a chance to voice any concerns. So by the time you get on set, everybody knows exactly what is and what isn't going to be happening. Then they kind of take a backseat and it almost feels like you have a motherly school teacher sort of vibe, in a nice way, checking in.</p><p>KO: I loved it. They're like, don't hesitate to pull me aside and be like, I'm not comfortable with this. But we were doing some intimate scenes in 100 degree weather. So when we were pulling each other's pants off, we had some kind of cover, like fake underwear, and they taped that down. And then they put another layer on and they taped that down, and then they put a cut out yoga mat on top of me and they taped that down. But everyone was very collaborative and making sure that everyone was comfortable. I wanted to make sure Kristen knew I wasn't trying to take advantage of her. She wanted to make sure that I didn't feel taken advantage of.</p><p><b>Where do you both think Jackie and Lou end up after the credits roll?</b></p><p>KO: The realistic side of me is like, well, they get arrested eventually, they get extradited back to New Mexico and they go to jail for murder and all the things. But the movie side is like okay, so they go out to California and try to start anew, and I think they would eventually get over each other. I kind of hope they don't stay together because they're not good for each other. Maybe they'll go to California and murder more people and that can be Love Lies Bleeding Part Two. But whatever the end is, I hope the cat is fine.</p><p>RG: Short term, I think it's going to be great and continue to be a lot of fun. Maybe they'll get to the next bodybuilding competition. I'm not sure how highly I rate their long term prospects, but you never know. It's what they both needed at that point. So long as Jackie continues bodybuilding, and Lou doesn't really have a huge amount of purpose beyond getting out of this town, she'll continue to latch herself on to Jackie too much. At one point were like, maybe maybe Lou should go and become a slightly manipulative manager, but I don't want to write a sequel just yet.</p><p><a href="https://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/movies/a60200743/love-lies-bleeding-katy-obrian-rose-glass-interview/?taid=65f4779325aac600015aefba&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter" target="_blank">Source</a> </p>TeamKristenSitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18275780749223413134noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5733730820934625084.post-86418687856853712542024-03-15T19:25:00.000-07:002024-03-15T19:25:04.857-07:00Video: 'Love Lies Bleeding' interview with JoBlo<p> </p><div style="text-align: center;"><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/aNWmN88lk-g?si=uV-SbkWf8UJ2cP8J" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></div>TeamKristenSitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18275780749223413134noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5733730820934625084.post-12690061201454529392024-03-15T04:32:00.000-07:002024-03-15T04:32:05.869-07:00Video: Kristen's interview with The Morning Show for 'Love Lies Bleeding' <p> </p><div style="text-align: center;"><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/yq3wKcA7QcE?si=C6kAyAP8A0Ggpgrc" title="YouTube video player" width="560"></iframe></div>TeamKristenSitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18275780749223413134noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5733730820934625084.post-56143996351906260962024-03-15T04:30:00.000-07:002024-03-15T04:30:50.512-07:00'Love Lies Bleeding' interview with USA Today<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsQujXQpMGctMdU3YrX6pFp82mha8E0bYrtXySAxpIBHcrv0WBzqJjxQG26z_Md_Vdh5k66aKklMzgQuTMISEx5ctIHVodGlxN7A_fIC6a2El4HUejVIdH7NXCZnk26eoJcii7NuTwKStgRNrfo5j4pczN1IFaK6U9h6NVhr7GTr9of6ajYWqzoPaexLHv/s1320/72961712007-ap-love-lies-bleeding-portrait-session-2.webp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="924" data-original-width="1320" height="280" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsQujXQpMGctMdU3YrX6pFp82mha8E0bYrtXySAxpIBHcrv0WBzqJjxQG26z_Md_Vdh5k66aKklMzgQuTMISEx5ctIHVodGlxN7A_fIC6a2El4HUejVIdH7NXCZnk26eoJcii7NuTwKStgRNrfo5j4pczN1IFaK6U9h6NVhr7GTr9of6ajYWqzoPaexLHv/w400-h280/72961712007-ap-love-lies-bleeding-portrait-session-2.webp" width="400" /></a></div><p></p><p>Be gay, do crime.</p><p>That seems to be a theme of the 2024 box office, between lesbian road-trip comedy “Drive-Away Dolls” and the gritty “Love Lies Bleeding” (in theaters nationwide Friday), starring Kristen Stewart as a training gym manager whose ripped, vengeful girlfriend (Katy O’Brian) sets off a brutal chain of events. They’re the latest in a string of genre movies that eschew queer trauma and pain, from last summer’s raunchy “Bottoms” to this spring’s offbeat “Problemista.”</p><p>“It does feel like a movement,” says Stewart, speaking over Zoom with filmmaker Rose Glass, who playfully suggests a “Dolls" and "Bleeding” double feature.</p><p>“When is it that you have two (gay) films out at the same time, both doing their own weird thing?” Glass says. “Lesbians everywhere!”</p><p>“Heads explode!” Stewart jokes. “Lesbians overload!”</p><p>Kristen Stewart says her new movie is 'so sexy and very gay'</p><p>"Lou's really weak and Jackie's really strong," Kristen Stewart, right, says of her big-screen duo with Katy O'Brian.</p><p>Set in dusty 1980s New Mexico, “Bleeding” opens with the unassuming Lou (Stewart) plunging toilets just before she spots Jackie (O’Brian), an alluring newcomer to her gym. Within days, Lou is introducing Jackie to her dysfunctional family and feeding her steroids for an upcoming bodybuilding competition. But their romance quickly turns toxic, as Lou is forced to clean up the mess of Jackie’s violent decisions.</p><p>The film is frequently erotic, despite its grisly subject matter, with electric chemistry and carnal sex scenes between Stewart and O’Brian.</p><p>“I wasn't interested in doing the tasteful lesbian period drama where it’s all fleeting glances and hand grazes,” Glass says. “It’s nice to do something that’s a bit hornier and more visceral.”</p><p>For years, folks on social media have sardonically begged for more movies where "lesbians have electricity and running water." “God, that's so funny,” says Stewart, 33, who came out publicly in 2017. “That's Hollywood's problem: Lesbians having electricity!”</p><p>With this film, the Oscar nominee was interested in bringing modern sensibilities to a queer romance. Jackie sleeps with both men and women and uses her body to get what she wants. Lou, meanwhile, harbors dark secrets and struggles to connect with others. But through Jackie, she finds the strength to stand up to her diabolical dad (Ed Harris) and imagine a real future for herself.</p><p>“They’re able to believe in each other in the way that they want to be seen, and that is so sexy and very gay,” Stewart says. “It’s a little more cerebral than physical.”</p><p>Although most Hollywood sex scenes cut away before the clothes come off, Glass allows you to sit in the characters’ sweaty, fumbling intimacy. “They’re not the most explicit (scenes); you don't see much,” Stewart says. “They’re just gnarly because you’re not used to seeing things like that.”</p><p>The actors worked with an intimacy coordinator and filmed nude scenes on a closed set with minimal crew.</p><p>“Kristen was very straightforward, like, 'If I do anything that makes you uncomfortable, please voice it,’ ” O’Brian says. “It was a cool, collaborative thing and it wound up being fun.”</p><p>After her chilling debut film “Saint Maud” in 2021, Glass was interested in subverting the idea of a “strong female lead.” Rather than write a woman whose strength is her moral compass, she decided to make a pulpy thriller about a kind of She-Hulk.</p><p>“There was an endearing petulance and brattiness to being like, ‘All right, you want a movie about a strong girl? I’ll give it to you,’ ” says Stewart, who met with Rose in 2021 while promoting Princess Diana drama “Spencer.” “Her pitch was like, ‘Monsters come out of the crevices, we all have them inside. It’s a scary place to live in the ‘80s in America, and how can I be strong as a woman who’s gay?’ ”</p><p>One of Glass’ chief inspirations was the infamous 1995 flop “Showgirls,” about one woman’s ruthless pursuit of stardom in Las Vegas. “It was this tightrope of wanting to lean into that camp melodrama, but still wanting there to be an emotional reality to it,” Glass says.</p><p>After seeing “Showgirls” for herself, Stewart instantly understood the dark humor and heightened performances that Glass was going for: “Our movie never goes into the absurd quite as much as ‘Showgirls’ does, but every time I watch (‘Bleeding’), I can’t stop laughing.”</p><p>"There is something inherently punk about it," Kristen Stewart says of "Love Lies Bleeding."</p><p>“Bleeding” continues a creative hot streak for Stewart, who has drawn acclaim in the last 10 years for her work in “Certain Women,” “Crimes of the Future,” "Still Alice" and “Personal Shopper." She first caught critics’ attention at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival for “Clouds of Sils Maria,” a turning point for the “Twilight” actress.</p><p>“I was lucky,” Stewart says of the project. “That spun me off in a cooler, more satisfying direction.”</p><p>Stewart wants to make bold choices behind the camera as well. She plans to make her feature directorial debut with the long-gestating “The Chronology of Water.” She admires Glass' visual vocabulary and command of tone but is also eager to forge her own path as a filmmaker.</p><p>“Movies say something about the person that made them,” Stewart says. “I’ve worked with great directors and Rose is absolutely one of them. I learned so much on set, but more so that you have to just kind of do your own thing.”</p><p><a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/movies/2024/03/14/kristen-stewart-love-lies-bleeding/72838115007/" target="_blank">Source</a></p>TeamKristenSitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18275780749223413134noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5733730820934625084.post-82690182877157832442024-03-15T04:21:00.000-07:002024-03-15T05:18:48.957-07:00Kristen on the cover of Who What Wear - March 2024<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Traversing seamlessly from a fantasy world of vampires and werewolves to that of a legendary 1970s rock frontwoman and jumping from a queer home-for-the-holidays rom-com to an Oscar-nominated turn as the people's princess is Stewart's speciality. You can't pinpoint any kind of project-picking philosophy (by choice, I imagine) other than maybe a desire to play multifaceted women who defy societal norms. Her ability to keep audiences guessing with every project, much like with her unquestionably cool beauty and fashion transformations, is what makes Stewart one of the most impressive actors of our generation. </div><div><br /></div><div>In Rose Glass's sophomore film Love Lies Bleeding, Stewart's performance is as liberated as they come. The heart-pounding romantic noir thriller is a roided-up, sweaty, violent fever dream set against the backdrop of 1989 rural New Mexico. Stewart plays Lou, a reclusive gym manager with a shaggy mullet and a dodgy family led by her gun-toting father (Ed Harris). Lou seems to be going nowhere fast in her seedy small town until Jackie (Katy O'Brian), an aspiring bodybuilder, shows up from Oklahoma and irrevocably shakes things up. The pair quickly become an item with big plans of getting out of town when a terrible decision, spawned by a growing steroid habit, leads to murder. </div><div><br /></div><div>Love Lies Bleeding first premiered to rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival in January, where Stewart was honored with a Visionary Award and declared she wouldn't act in another film until her own directorial debut, an adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch's memoir The Chronology of Water, got financing. After shopping the project around for nearly three years—"too fucking long," she shouts—Stewart finally found her funding. And not a moment too soon. On the verge of a life-changing career milestone, she jumped on the phone with her good friend and fellow actor-turned-director Riley Keough to talk about going bombastic for Love Lies Bleeding, the divine timing of directing her first film, and coming up in a different era of Hollywood. </div><div><div><br /></div><div>Riley Keough: Hi!</div><div><br /></div><div>Kristen Stewart: Hey, what's up? </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Oh my gosh. I'm so happy to see you. Where are you?</div><div><br /></div><div>KS: I'm in my house. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Very cool. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: To leave the responsibility of conducting something readable in our hands is just funny. I thought twice about that. … I was like, "Cool, I get to hang out with Ri for 50 minutes. That sounds nice." But then I was like, "Wait, do we want other people to be privy to the swill?" There's nothing good that will be had. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: It's okay because I have prompts, so I'm going to stick to the page. Well firstly, … I got to see this incredible movie when I was in bed with COVID, which was really a trippy experience because when I had COVID—I'm in England—I had this crazy dream that a demon took over my body. I went to bed, and I woke up and called my energy healer because I was like, "I literally just had a dream that a demon took my body over and started wanting to kill people." I got your movie sent to me that day. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Was the desire to kill something you knew as a fact, like in the reality of the dream, or did you actually experience that need to murder?</div><div><br /></div><div>RK: I can't believe I'm saying this in an interview. I've never told anyone this but my therapist, but it was like a demon took over my body, and it was like, "Rawrrr!" It was threatening people, and I was like, "What is taking over?" It was so crazy. I felt like there was another entity in my body. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Like you were out of control. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: I was totally out of control. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Like Being John Malkovich style—going, "Oh shit!"</div><div><br /></div><div>RK: I woke up with COVID, so maybe that was the COVID aggressively entering my body in my dreams. And then I had to watch Love Lies Bleeding. It was just so intense, but it was actually amazing. I was like, "This is great. At least, I'm not alone." </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: I was going to say that's a trippy alone watch. That is a movie that you'd like to get caught up in a bit of a raucous time with others versus sitting still and alone with. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: It's so great, but also, you're so good in it. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Thanks, dude.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><div>RK: Maybe this doesn't feel right to you, but when I was watching you, you felt so free and so liberated in your performance. I don't know if it felt that way when you were performing it, but it felt very … alive and free.</div><div><br /></div><div>KS: It's weird because the character is also kind of paralyzed, so at the same time, she's not somebody who is free, or I don't think you would necessarily pin "liberated" on her. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: No, she's not, and that's what is so weird. … If I read that on the page, I would have played her much more restrained. I can't describe it, but it was really special. It was just so interesting, and I would just like you to speak to that. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: It was good timing, in that getting older and choosing the right things for you plays into it because I had so much fucking fun. I didn't want to stop doing it ever. I wanted us to go over schedule. We were lucky because we got the chance to take a step back and return to it and do "reshoots," which really just felt like an extension of the process. The script was precise, but the whole thing felt malleable the whole time. … [Rose Glass] really allowed people to come in and inhabit this space in a way that is rare, and I really did relish the opportunity and was obsessed with Lou. She was someone that I really needed to get behind the whole time. … She's a protagonist that is so satisfying because we all have this demon and this monster in there that is like, "Maybe I could be awful. Maybe I scare the shit out of myself." </div><div><br /></div><div>Also tonally, this person is someone who is not used to being looked at, so there's this weird, tongue-in-cheek, rye, smirky thing that happens in this movie for me. I'm so aware of the fact that this is usually not the main character. Every time the camera is all about me—and Lou I guess—I'm always like, "Wait, are you fucking kidding me?" I'm literally having a ball, and that's probably what you sensed. She's definitely locked up and weird and in a million ways unprocessed and needs so much therapy, but it was so fun to play the good, affable guy that … doesn't have to be morally upstanding or go through some journey, process thing that makes everyone feel better about the movies and stories that we choose to tell about women. I was so stoked about how different and fun and also just [how] 'fuck off' sexy it was. I was like, "Rose, who the fuck are you?!" </div></div><div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Was the desire to kill something you knew as a fact, like in the reality of the dream, or did you actually experience that need to murder?</div><div><br /></div><div>RK: I can't believe I'm saying this in an interview. I was like, "Rose, who the fuck are you?!" </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: I was just constantly surprised with this film and also your character. I was like, "Okay, it's this thing. This is the character," and then it was different. You brought so much texture to it. You know when you watch something and you're like, "Oh, I wouldn't have thought of that. I wouldn't have done that"? I love when I watch performances like that. There are moments where you're so funny. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: I feel that way about you constantly. It's not nonsense. It's true reciprocation. I genuinely feel that way every time I watch you in a movie. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Thanks! It was … not what I would have expected or done or chose, so I really loved watching you. </div></div><div><br /></div><div><div>KS: Rose had to consistently remind me of tone because I would always go under, and she'd be like, "No, no." She'd push us toward ballistic, like bombastic. How good is Anna Baryshnikov [in the movie]? </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Oh my gosh, I was like, "This girl is so crazy." The acting was so great. Everyone was psychotic. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: I was so impressed with her in person, in real time. I tend to be probably so annoying to directors. I'll take things so literal in the moment for some reason, and then give me a couple days, and I'm like, "I don't know why I was hung up on that. I'm so sorry. That was such an irrelevant detail." </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Sometimes, acting is like you're drunk or something because you're not totally yourself. I'll behave in ways I don't normally behave and get total tunnel vision. It's like, "I'm sorry for my behavior." </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Yeah, you go to bed at night and wake up and go, "Oh" the same way you might if you were being an idiot while drunk. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: What was the prep [for the film] like? </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Ours was really standard. We read the script a couple of times together and probably had different conversations about the script at once. We were all talking at each other about different things and not really coming to any enlightening conclusions. … I actually had to reverse—I had quit smoking [prior to shooting the film], so it really sucked having to [go back].</div></div><div><br /></div><div><div>RK: I was curious. I was like, "Are you smoking fake cigs in this movie?" </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: No, they were real. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: I was like, "There's no way she's smoking fake cigs." </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Yucky. You can't do that. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: They are so gross. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: They are fucking awful, and also, they don't smoke. You know what I mean? They smolder, and they get in your eyes, and you look like a loser. But that sucked. That was a part of the prep. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Why did you quit smoking?</div><div><br /></div><div>KS: I think it's something [we] should all do at some point in our lives. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Did you quit quit?</div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Yeah, I don't like making promises or whatever, but I don't like smoking cigarettes anymore. [Lou] smokes a fucking lot of cigarettes in the beginning of this movie, and Rose does takes. We don't do things three times. It was fun. We always really pushed things. I took a couple years off my life on this one. It was worth it. I love this movie, but it was not good. </div></div><div><br /></div><div><div><br /></div><div>Chanel shirt, shorts, and bag; Hue socks; Piaget bracelet</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Kristen Stewart Is Calling the Shots</b></div><div><br /></div><div>The Love Lies Bleeding star joins fellow actor-turned-director Riley Keough in conversation for our March cover.</div><div><br /></div><div>For the better part of two decades, Kristen Stewart has moved through Hollywood like a chameleon, slipping into a mélange of characters and subverting expectations at every turn. Traversing seamlessly from a fantasy world of vampires and werewolves to that of a legendary 1970s rock frontwoman and jumping from a queer home-for-the-holidays rom-com to an Oscar-nominated turn as the people's princess is Stewart's speciality. </div><div><br /></div><div>Riley Keough: Hi!</div><div><br /></div><div>Kristen Stewart: Hey, what's up? </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Thanks, dude.</div><div><br /></div><div>I was so stoked about how different and fun and also just [how] 'fuck off' sexy it was.</div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Maybe this doesn't feel right to you, but when I was watching you, you felt so free and so liberated in your performance. It's not nonsense. It's true reciprocation. I genuinely feel that way every time I watch you in a movie. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Thanks! It was … not what I would have expected or done or chose, so I really loved watching you. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Rose had to consistently remind me of tone because I would always go under, and she'd be like, "No, no." She'd push us toward ballistic, like bombastic. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Okay, I'm going to go to my list so I can do some of the questions… </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: What are you working on right now?</div><div><br /></div><div>RK: I'm working on a movie in London. I'm rehearsing. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: That's nice. That's such a nice, comfy, cozy rehearsal schedule. That's so luxurious. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Yeah, I only work like eight days in total, so I have some chill time. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Except it's not chill to only work eight days on a movie because then you're like, "Okay, I better fucking slaughter this." </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: I don't know what it is, but taking [a supporting role] is so much more stressful for me. Do you feel that?</div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Yeah, you are signing up for torture because you just put so much pressure on your limited time to get something across. I recently had to let a part go in a movie that I know is going to be spectacular. It's one of those ones where the script is so prosaic. It's basically like a novella. You could publish the screenplay. The two actors are two of my favorite working actors, young too. [They're] exciting people who are just so fucking amazing. … All details aside, my movie [The Chronology of Water] just got funded. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: I just heard! We should talk about that. That's so exciting. After how long of trying to get financed?</div></div><div><br /></div><div><div>KS: I was trying to get financed for like three years. … But I've been holding this close, and it's been an idea for six years. That's when the adaptation process started. I've been in Latvia. Dude, spatially and environmentally, these areas of the Earth are opening themselves up to us and the story in a way that just feels so alive, and it is so official for me because it's been so long. I'll see the correct doorway and just lose it. Just knowing the people there that are helping us make it, the way that we've crewed up, the current cast, the way it's evolving… All of it, like how committed [the lead] Imogen [Poots] has been for so long, it feels more personal. I feel like I created a living body outside of my body. It's such a cliché, but it does feel like this little animal is very unruly, and I'm proud of it and scared of it—like full Frankenstein. </div><div><br /></div><div>I'm scared of where it might take us, but then I'm also encouraging it to take us fully over every edge. I think Imogen can take it. I think she's strong enough physically. She's in the perfect place in her life. I'm so glad it's taken this long because things have opened up in a way that's going to create a better film. I think it's … perfect, exact fucking timing, and I'm so excited. It's going to be done in a flash. Three months and it's fucking done. </div></div><div><br /></div><div><div>RK: It will be over, so just enjoy every stressful moment. The couple things in life that I really have experienced divine timing in, thus far, have been the birth of my child and then directing a film. It really comes together exactly when it's supposed to, and it's so weird. … It's a really magical thing that I haven't experienced in other parts of this job as much, like acting or whatever. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Yeah, because you're harvesting something. … It is other people who generated the thing. You can find areas in which to plug in your person and your personal and your interior life, but it's exterior. You are going through something outside. It's such a different self-generative, womb-like push. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: It sounds so simple, but it is so magical to see something come from your creative imagination and then get realized. … Look, there are so many drafts that we did. I'll forget what we took in or left out sometimes. You're doing your job, whatever you're doing as a director, and then somebody walks in with a yellow pen because you wrote, "She's holding a yellow pen," and you're like, "Whoa." </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Whoa, I wrote that like six years ago. Thank you for noticing that detail, person. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: This whole thing takes on a life, and it's like, "Wow, all of these people are bringing my idea into reality, and it's so trippy." It's like magic. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: It's so fun to talk to you about [this] because you don't necessarily get to talk about this stuff while you're doing it, and it's so trippy to just put it in basic terms like that, where you're like, "How did I do that?" And then it was taken and made into something that is living and breathing. I know that that's just a given, but to actually witness… This actually is a quote from the book: "Witness the will of it." … It takes so much fucking will and willing. The whole thing about directing a thing is looking for the right people who want it as much as you do, and maybe you want something different, but to funnel all of that wanting [and] all of the desire is so overwhelming. Are you guys going to make a new movie soon? What's the next movie that you're going to direct?</div></div><div><br /></div><div>RK: We're writing like three movies because we're confused. I'll sit down and write 10 pages and be like, "This is the one," and then I'm so uninspired to keep writing for a month, and then I'll go back to the other one. I'm allowing myself to be lyrical and emotional in my writing process because I find that to be the most successful way for me to write. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Honestly, there are so many ways into story. For me, it's always a detail versus anything overarching, and that's probably also my weakness and a strength, which makes sense because you're an actor. I think that's something not to avoid, especially when you work with writers or you're around people who are a little more practical in their approach. It's easy to be jealous of that, but it's also the coolest thing to be like, "Yeah, but my moments, they fucking shine."</div><div><br /></div><div><div>RK: I'm a self-taught writer like you are. I didn't go to school to screenwrite, and it's taken me a minute to learn—well, a minute has been like 10 years. [Laughs] </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: You're like, "Sorry, why am I self-effacing?"</div><div><br /></div><div>RK: [Laughs] "Actually, I'm a professional." It's taken me a long time to find the balance of what works for me and structure. I can't write with structure in mind. I have to write the way I write, and then I'll…</div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Find a skeleton to support. Those moments that you are attracted to dreaming up, they're all connected. They are not disconnected. Let them be free, and then you can find a way to put them together. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Totally. I'm a little dyslexic, and often, I'll write the end first, and that's how it works for me. I just follow where it takes me. I don't just sit down and go, "Okay, I'm working from 3 to 4, and I'm going to just write." I can't really do that. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: My brain is better in the morning. I would love to live that romanticized 'writing into the night' life, but I really wake up in the morning and commit and don't say a word until [I'm] done.</div><div><br /></div><div>RK: I have a funny thing where I'm a beast on the airplane. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Me too! I just did that. I read the book cover to cover and did a whole revision and wrote like three love letters to actors. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: I need to fly like once a week because I write so much on the airplane. I don't know. Maybe it's that we're just closer to God. </div></div><div><br /></div><div><div>KS: [Laughs] Wow. Anyway, I can't wait to find the right fucking thing for us to do together. Also, I think our companies being sisters is really cute. We're like, "Let's read all of your shit." And it's like, "Well, can you read mine?" I feel like we're these fledgling—not in a self-effacing way, but in a way that I just think we're both going to go places with these things. I can't wait to grow together. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Aw.</div><div><br /></div><div>KS: I imagine two houses, and I'm like, "What are they having for dinner?" I have to run over and be like, "Wait, what's in the kitchen?" I am so curious to know what you're fucking cooking, man. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: It's really inspiring to watch your friends work and do great work. That brings us back to Love Lies Bleeding, where I was like, "I love my friends. They're so talented!"</div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Isn't it the best feeling? It's so lucky. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: I just love that I feel that way, too, because this industry can be so competitive, especially when I think back to being 20 years old and auditioning against all of these girls and what that felt like—how it felt to be compared to [them]. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: The verbiage surrounding actresses was much gnarlier in that era. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: It was a crazy era. It was also an era where you were actually so radical. Every side I would get, I'm like, "I'm not this person." It was the girl next door for every character. Every role was the blonde girl next door. They were all the same, and I was like, "I can't play that. I can't do it. It's not in my wheelhouse." I would be so defeated because I'm like, "I'm never going to be this type of girl."</div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Well, that type of girl doesn't exist. That is an archetype that makes people feel comfortable, and some people in real life play that girl. At some point, that is really hard on a body. I don't think it's sustainable. </div></div><div><br /></div><div><div>RK: I think that's why you were so exciting. … You were playing the leads and the girl, but in your own way. Now, it's so much more common. The roles for us are much more complex, but that's what was so powerful about all of your performances and why they connected so much—girls were seeing a girl that wasn't the thing they see in everything. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: I tried to play that too. I did try to do that when I was supposed to do that. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Yeah, but there's just not part of that in you. Anyways, I'm glad that we have more opportunities these days. … When are you going to shoot your movie?</div><div><br /></div><div>KS: The fact that we are even on the phone right now is so… It's going to make me vomit because I am busy, and I need to be doing other things right now. I'm waiting for snow. In my dream world, I can cast four integral parts really quickly, and we're going to do a snow dance and fucking hope for a storm that will occur before we go into full prep so I can get a preshoot. Proof of concept, I only need 15 fuckers standing on my set. We can do everything so tiny. We are shooting on [16-millimeter film]. I want to be able to do a little set piece before we start shooting. I want to set a vibe and be like, "Believe me—this is all we need moving forward unless we have larger days." So pray for fucking snow. … The scope of everything, those two sequences are going to make us look like a big, huge movie, and if we don't get it, we'll start April 1. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Well, that is so exciting. I'm so happy for you. </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: I know! I'm really scared and exhilarated, and I feel like I'm living in a simulation. It's not really real, and nothing matters. Also, it feels really different depending on the hour of the day. In the morning, I wake up, and I'm literally like, "Follow me into hell, motherfuckers. I can do anything." At night, if I'm alone in a hotel room, I'm spiraling about why I told everyone we should be doing this. </div></div><div><br /></div><div><div>RK: I think that's the spectrum of directing. It's so intense. Well, I don't have any advice for you because I don't know what I'm doing, but I'm so excited for you because it's just a wild ride.</div><div><br /></div><div>KS: I kind of wish you were going to be there. I don't want to tell you about it. I just want you to be there. It's going to be so fucking fun. We need to make a movie together. </div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Okay, let's do it. I literally said this morning to Gina [Gammell], "We need to find something for me and Kristen to do because it would be so much fun." </div><div><br /></div><div>KS: Yes! Okay, well, let's get off the phone. I think we're done, right?</div><div><br /></div><div>RK: Yeah.</div></div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Beauty</b></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;"><div>From diffused, soft-focused makeup to freshly snipped micro bangs, Kristen Stewart’s March cover look is what springtime makeup and hair dreams are made of. Inspired by the actor’s signature effortless approach, Stewart’s longtime hairstylist, Adir Abergel, describes the aesthetic as one part Audrey Hepburn, one part early ’80s. (See her choppy bangs which were re-cut the morning of our shoot.) To accentuate, Chanel makeup artist Kate Lee was influenced by Sarah Moon and early ’90s Paolo Roversi photography, creating an overall finish that’s both “mysterious” and “out of focus.” The result? A melding of retro inspiration that feels timeless yet unique.</div><div><br /></div><div>“Kristen is a chameleon,” Abergel tells me when I ask about the star’s hair evolution. “It’s not a linear evolution—it’s her, always. She’s really timeless. Right now, we’re letting all of the layers grow, and we’re only focused on trimming the bangs as a focal point.” Lee echoes Abergel’s sentiment, sharing that regardless of Stewart's makeup look—be it “nude and clean” or “strong and defiant,” the finish is always bold and inspiring, which makes for the ultimate collaborative process. </div><div><br /></div><div>“We really don't come to a shoot with any pre-concepts,” explains Abergel. “We see the clothes, we understand who the photographer is, and we decide what we want to feel that day in terms of storytelling. I always bring ideas to the table, and so does Kristen. Then, we meet at the exact spot that feels honest to us."</div><div><br /></div><div>Despite the many hair renditions Stewart and Abergel have conceptualized in the past, here, the focus would be her new, very blunt, choppy micro bangs. (If you’re the type of brave soul who cuts their bangs at home, Abergel recommends always erring on the longer side and cutting at an angle—never straight across—to give them a cool, broken edge.)</div><div><br /></div><div>“When styling, Kristen and I always use Virtue’s Damage Reverse Hair Serum ($60), which is a leave-in treatment for the hair,” says Abergel. “Then, I mixed the brand’s Hydrating Healing Hair Oil ($45) with the Correct Un-Frizz Hair Styling & Smoothing Cream ($44) to get a grunge vibe. You actually have to apply a lot more product than you think you do in order to get that undone, piecey finish.” After that, Abergel used a diffuser to enhance Stewart’s natural texture, explaining that it’s essential to allow the hair’s natural formations (like, say, a cowlick) to lead the way as you style. As the last step, Abergel focused on the micro bangs, making sure the choppy details were set to his liking.</div><div><br /></div><div>Poised with her head tilted and Chanel lipstick in hand (Rouge Coco Flash Lip Colour in Moment, $48, in case you’re wondering), Stewart’s ethereal makeup looks as if it came courtesy of hazy, early morning sunlight, and not a host of products. Her blurry, diffused lips, in particular, are a point of fixation. “Use a soft, fluffy brush to build up the color of your lips in a gradual way, taking care to keep things gentle towards the lip line and more intense toward the center of the lip,” directs Lee. To make the lip line “melt away,” she recommends using a transparent loose powder on a clean brush to enhance the blur. To create darker iterations of the lip throughout the shoot, Lee used additional lip shades like Chanel’s beloved Rouge Coco Baumes ($45) in Chilling Pink, Keep Cool, and Cocoon.</div></div><p style="text-align: left;">Source <a href="https://www.whowhatwear.com/beauty/kristen-stewart-beauty-cover" target="_blank">1</a> <a href="https://www.whowhatwear.com/fashion/celebrity/kristen-stewart-cover-story" target="_blank">2</a> <br /></p></div>TeamKristenSitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18275780749223413134noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5733730820934625084.post-32493335085115633382024-03-14T12:50:00.000-07:002024-03-14T12:50:32.422-07:00Video: 'Love Lies Bleeding' interview with Made in Hollywood TV<p> </p><div style="text-align: center;"><iframe allow="accelerometer; She also knows that Rose Glass should.</p><p>The 34-year-old English director and screenwriter is one of those rare original storytellers with daring things to say and the vision to do them justice. In other words, definitely not “everybody.” Glass’ first film “ Saint Maud,” was a chilling picture of faith and madness. Her second, “ Love Lies Bleeding ” (expanding in theaters this weekend) is also kind of about madness but of different sorts – that of love, of power and of strength (the literal kind).</p><p>“I wanted to make something kind of fun and sweaty and violent,” Glass said in an interview with The Associated Press.</p><p>Moviemaking may be a risk-averse business, but Glass and her collaborators are not. Set in the American West in the 1980s, Stewart plays Lou, an introverted gym manager and daughter of a local conman (Ed Harris) who gets swept up in the fever dream of new love with an aspiring bodybuilder, Jackie (Katy O’Brian), who’s passing through town.</p><p>“I loved that it felt a bit like mythology, like a comic booky, throwback ’80s,” said Stewart. “I can’t finish any of these sentences but the movie is good.”</p><p>“(Rose) made this audacious and singular, unique experience personal for us and let us be our own individuals and just, like, traipse all over her thing,” Stewart added. “It’s so fun to work with people who are like cuckoo birds but also really concerted.”</p><p>Glass, Stewart and O’Brian spoke to The Associated Press in an expletive-filled and slightly R-rated conversation about the twist on the idea of “strong female characters,” their aversion to a certain overused shorthand and “Showgirls.”</p><p><b>AP: What were some of the things that really excited you about “Love Lies Bleeding”?</b></p><p>STEWART: I guess, like, in your dreams, you don’t always do the right thing. And in movies, somehow girls are kind of expected to make everyone feel really comfortable. I think that’s a very default setting for women in general. And in this case, it was like, yeah, but what if I’m (expletive) and my rage is boiling out and bubbling over? And it also really turns me on to share that with another person?</p><p>O’BRIAN: It wasn’t like just about resilience or just about one thing. There’s so much that you can read into it if you want to, which I think is cool. Or you can just watch it and have fun.</p><p><b>AP: Why do you think it’s subversive to make a movie about female power that’s also literally about bodybuilding?</b></p><p>GLASS: Maybe it’s just something you haven’t seen. I don’t know many films which have female bodybuilders in it.</p><p>STEWART: You said something recently about looking at a female body like that, like there’s something kind of punk about it. Because when you think of feminine qualities, unfortunately, we defer to like demure, or soft or elegant or sort of like something languid. And you’re like, well, she’s a woman, so she’s inherently feminine. That’s just not the shape that you’re used to. But it is definitely female strength.</p><p>I think also just playing with toys that we’re not usually allowed to play with in a petulant way. I’m like looking at Rose and going, “because you’re a brat and you’re (expletive) hilarious that’s why you wanted to do this.”</p><p>The idea of the strength, it must have come from annoying conversations that you were having in rooms with people who fund movies. And I could be wrong, but that’s my take.</p><p>GLASS: Like, “Oh do something with a strong female character”? I’ll make her really muscley.</p><p><b>AP: It sort of makes me think about women being described as “kick (expletive)” which always makes me wince.</b></p><p>STEWART: Like “bad (expletive).”</p><p>O’BRIAN: The words “bad (expletive)” together.</p><p>STEWART: We’ve had it a lot today. And I don’t mean to diminish anyone who used it, because it was really nice for them to say and it came with good intention. But it makes my toes curl so far into my body that I no longer have an (expletive). AP! Let’s go.</p><p><b>AP: We’ll put a demure “expletive” in there. Katy, how did Jackie come alive for you?</b></p><p>O’BRIAN: What really helped me was everything else around: The wardrobes and the hair and makeup. Then getting to see Jackie next to Lou and see Jackie in the gym. I was trying to tell the costumers, I was like well people wouldn’t really work out in this. And she’s like, “Katy, people also don’t grow to be 35 feet…We’re going for the magazine vibe, the sexy vibe.” And it’s 100% what Jackie needed. Even the workout equipment that you got from the ‘80s, it’s made for men because women didn’t work out (that way). They did aerobics, Jane Fonda. You had to adjust your own height to try to figure out how to get the right muscle because it’s bigger equipment.</p><p><b>AP: I read that Rose had the cast and crew watch Cronenberg’s “Crash” and “Paris, Texas” and “Showgirls.” Were any of those new to you, or did you find different dimensions as they related to this?</b></p><p>STEWART: I had never seen “Showgirls.” I watched it in the trailer halfway through the movie and came out and was like ok, I’m not big enough. I’m not thrusting hard enough.</p><p>GLASS: Not walking away dramatically enough.</p><p>STEWART: Like ohh that’s why you wanted me to go bigger.</p><p>O’BRIAN: I wasn’t able to find “Crash” in anything other than French, which I don’t speak.</p><p>GLASS: That’s crazy!</p><p>STEWART: It wasn’t on MUBI.</p><p><b>AP: This has played at Sundance and Berlin and is now rolling out wide in the US. Do you feel like people are getting it?</b></p><p>GLASS: It’s great to be there in the audience in particular hearing people make involuntary gasping noises and laughing in all places you hope they would…</p><p>So far it’s been very nice and positive and for people who don’t like it, I’m like “fair enough!” It’s not for everyone.</p><p>STEWART: There’s a line in Chronology (“Chronology of Water” which Stewart is adapting) where it’s like, “I started weeding out friends based on their reactions to ‘Empire of the Senseless.’ It was like, the women who were grossed out and walked out of the room, I stopped being friends with. And the women who smiled quietly to themselves and touched themselves were the friends that I kept.” This movie kind of does the same thing … not to be alienating and sort of us and them-y about it. But it is like, hey, ready? I’m going to sell the movie: Not for everyone. But that’s why it actually should be for everyone!</p><p>Source <a href="https://apnews.com/article/love-lies-bleeding-kristen-stewart-rose-glass-801d79cbafdaee4a5af9cc26da27e885" target="_blank">1</a> <a href="https://www.goshennews.com/news/national_news/love-lies-bleeding-portrait-session/image_93ea17fa-e9d3-5d17-8bd8-e1ff2e19d551.html" target="_blank">2</a> <a href="https://www.reflector.com/news/national/love-lies-bleeding-portrait-session/image_fe1d0dcc-6ff5-54fa-9533-e046d8bb3204.html" target="_blank">3</a> <a href="https://www.clintonherald.com/news/national_news/love-lies-bleeding-portrait-session/image_ff7ba014-e2d8-5c8c-ba36-b7ca0a215b1a.html" target="_blank">4</a></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>TeamKristenSitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18275780749223413134noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5733730820934625084.post-61951922608252618892024-03-11T21:39:00.000-07:002024-03-12T04:28:26.586-07:00Kristen on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert in NYC - 11 March 2024<p style="text-align: center;"><i></i></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; The film has received positive reviews since its January premiere at the Sundance Film Festival with critics highlighting the pair's electric chemistry. While Stewart has said her sex scenes with O'Brian will shock people, she credits their intimacy coordinator with helping the scenes look real — and "hot."</p><p>In Love Lies Bleeding, Stewart plays Lou, a gym manager who falls hard for Jackie, an ambitious bodybuilder (played by O'Brian) who is passing through town. The two have multiple intimate scenes that will have people talking. The role of an intimacy coordinator is somewhat controversial in Hollywood, but O'Brian says it was "cool" to work with one.</p><p>"It felt free," she tells Yahoo. "I know people are like, 'Oh, it just hinders what you can do' and didn't."</p><p>"No, I was into it," adds Stewart. "It's almost like having a nice open conversation about like what you all want and then, so you can have really good sex."</p><p>That hasn’t always been Stewart’s experience while filming sex scenes.</p><p>"I've always just been sort of thrown into [sex scenes]," Stewart tells Yahoo Entertainment, adding that she was not very familiar with the role an intimacy coordinator played on set before this film.</p><p>"Every scene usually is just — they begin kissing, maybe someone says something, they fall down, they begin to make love. And then you're like, cool so it's just a free-for-all, huh? Like, no one knows where anything's going? We didn't do it like that at all," she says. "There's a precision to the scene, there's a real power play dynamic thing happening, and so in order for that to really land and not us just being self-conscious face-smushers, it was directed pretty finitely."</p><p>According to SAG-AFTRA, an intimacy coordinator "is an advocate, a liaison between actors and production, and a movement coach and/or choreographer in regards to nudity and simulated sex and other intimate and hyper-exposed scenes."</p><p>Stewart says she's lucky to be at the stage in her career where she gets to make the movies she wants to make, not the ones she has to make.</p><p>"I read the script and just thought it was really bold, and scary, and funny, and hot and a movie that felt like from a different time," she says.</p><p>While Love Lies Bleeding is from a different time — it's set in the '80s — there was something about telling this queer story that spoke to her.</p><p>"In the '80s, there was an audaciousness and like a sort of lack of fear. I don't know, not lack of fear, just sort of an intensity that we've lost a bit. Like our edges have been dulled a bit in trying to be more considerate and nice to each other — which I am all about. But also we are monsters because we're humans," she says. "It's important to not make movies about, especially queer people, that are strictly just sort of just teaching lessons and trying to be good all around, moral compass people.
