Lane Garrison on Working with Kristen in "Camp X-Ray"

Lane Garrison stopped by our Los Angeles studio to talk about his exciting new role in Bonnie and Clyde and what it was like when costars Emile Hirsch, Holiday Granger, and Sarah Hyland all had to deal with snakes on set! Plus, we couldn't let Lane walk away without asking him about working on the new film Camp X-Ray with Kristen Stewart. Apparently, he and Kristen both went to a very "dark place."

Kristen Stewart on Her Shoe Philosophy: “Heels Limit Me”

Kristen Stewart is known for her casual style, both on and off the red carpet. Even though the star favors sporty kicks over sky-high stilettos, every once in awhile, she’ll throw us all for a loop and rock an amazing pair of heels. But you may not catch her wearing them for long.

“I feel more confident on my feet,” she told InStyle.com exclusively at the launch party for Jillian Dempsey Jewelry in L.A. as to why she prefers sneakers. “Like in a photo, obviously, things look better wearing heels, but in terms of just kicking around and actually like experiencing an entire night, heels limit me.” Which is why you’ll often catch her doing a quick change from stilettos to flats at some point during an evening out. “I feel I can experience about half of my night that I would be able to experience if I was just wearing shoes and I could run around,” she said.

“Literally, these [heels] slow you down. You get about half of your night, and they’re just like painful. So I really dig Vans. I just like wearing Vans.” So chances are if she’s wearing something fancy, we’d bet that she always has a pair of comfy kicks within arm’s reach.

Also came out to support her close friend Jillian and even sported a few of her designs. "She's incredibly ambitious, creative, very true, and she's a wonderful mother. She's just one of those chicks that you meet in life and you're like, 'You actually are very impressive, and I should take note of that and look up to you,'" said Stewart.

Jillian Dempsey Celebrated the Launch of Her Jewelry Line with Husband Patrick and Close Friends in Malibu

It was a big night for makeup artist-turned jewelry designer Jillian Dempsey as she launched her first ever jewelry line with a star-studded party at the Maxfield Malibu boutique in California. Dempsey not only had the loving support of her husband, Grey’s Anatomy actor Patrick Dempsey, but her celebrity friends Milla Jovovich and Kristen Stewart as well. “[I feel] very supportive and I’m really grateful that they’re here,” Dempsey told InStyle.com exclusively. “They turned up and it’s awesome. Don’t make me cry, it’s so nice!”

Just two years ago, Jillian first started creating jewelry by sculpting clay and wax into small scale jewelry and whenever she wore her designs out for jobs, celebrity friends including Stewart and Kate Winslet took notice and wanted their own piece of Jillian-sculpted jewelry. Fast-forward to last night, Dempsey now has a full jewelry line of edgy yet feminine pieces ranging from earrings, rings, necklaces, and punk lock bracelets, most of which are crafted in rose gold. “I work a lot with skin tone being a makeup artist, and I always find [rose gold] very warm,” Dempsey said.

U.S. DRAMATIC COMPETITION

A young woman joins the military to be part of something bigger than herself and her small-town roots. Instead, she ends up as a new guard at Guantanamo Bay, where her mission is far from black and white. Surrounded by hostile jihadists and aggressive squadmates, she strikes up an unusual friendship with one of the detainees. As two people on opposite sides of a war, they struggle to find their way through the ethical quagmire of Guantanamo Bay. In the process, they form an unlikely bond that changes them both.
Intricately constructed, Camp X-Ray is a case study in the power of performance. At still a young age Kristen Stewart has long been much more than a movie star, and with this nuanced and internal performance, she continues to prove she has serious acting chops. Opposite her, Payman Maadi delivers a riveting performance as a man caught in limbo, reaching out for reason. Burrowing past the politics and into the humanity of the infamous detention camp, writer/director Peter Sattler provides a fresh perspective on the discourse of the war on terrorism and achieves one of the great virtues of film—creating empathy.

Lane Garrison mentions Kristen & 'Camp X-Ray'

What can you tell us about your role in Camp X-Ray?

Peter Sattler wrote this phenomenal script about Guantanamo Bay. I finally get to put on the other shoes. On Prison Break, I played the convict. I’ve played the convict a lot and, unfortunately, life has imitated art. I’ve seen the inside of those walls and know them too well, so the interesting thing about this character for me was to get to put on the prison guard’s shoes and walk around the fence-line. I got to see what it was like to play a man who worked inside the prison but got to leave.

What was it like working with Kristen Stewart?

Working with Kristen was phenomenal. I have nothing but great things to say about her. She’s a total tomboy and she loves sports. We were playing basketball or throwing the football every day in the prison. We set up a driving range there. She’s a great golfer too, so we had an immediate connection with sports. She just loves acting. It doesn’t matter if it’s a small film or a big budget film. She loves acting, as do I. This story is going to be really, really powerful. I think it’s going to cause some controversy that might make people ask the question, “What should we do with Guantanamo?”
