Video: Kristen and Woody Harrelson talk 'Full Phil' and more with Deadline at Cannes

In Quentin Dupieux’s Full Phil, Kristen Stewart had to a eat a lot on screen — without a spit bucket.

In an interview for Deadline’s Cannes studio, Stewart said, “I only puked once. It was when they had filled this cauliflower mash with butter and they were like, ‘There’s no butter. It’s all vegetal oil.’ And I was like, ‘Vegetal oil?’ Woody’s vegan and I was like, ‘You can smell the butter.'”

“I’d have had a spit bucket,” co-star Woody Harrelson said. “I wouldn’t care.”

In Full Phil, Harrelson and Stewart are a father and daughter who’ve taken a trip to Paris in an attempt to reconnect. As his daughter consumes more and more delectable food from room service and a dinner at a restaurant, Phil finds himself in a symbiotic nightmare, feeling the effects of everything she eats and drinks.

“They had a very talented and willful French man making the food,” Stewart explained. “Our process means that I have to eat all day long. They wanted it to taste really good and reflect the French cuisine. And I was like, ‘I’m going to die. I’m not supposed to actually perish.'”

However, she embraced the challenge in terms of how it informed her process. “The eating’s cool because it’s nice to have obstacles,” she said, “like kind of hurdles that you don’t think about when you’re running lines… It’s a metaphor. It’s very symbolic. She’s a voracious bottomless pit, eating her feelings.”

Dupieux said he was inspired by the fact he himself has an 11 year-old daughter. “She’s quite someone, ” he said. “But it’s nothing like the movie. It’s not like that. But I guess it’s almost like a nightmare version of what I’m living with my daughter. I’m living a dream with my family and my daughter… It seems obvious that I may be talking about me and my daughter, plus I’m getting fat.”

I don’t think since I saw Ruben Östlund for the first time — I hadn’t really seen anyone with whom I thought, ‘Whoa, this guy is his own master.’

Harrelson said of Dupieux, “I think he’s got an extraordinary sense of humor, but he also just has a way of shooting things that just heightens or magnifies the experience for you. I don’t think since I saw Ruben Östlund for the first time — I hadn’t really seen anyone with whom I thought, ‘Whoa, this guy is his own master.’ And ‘Whoa, OK!’ He is a true maestro and I think his vision is extraordinary. And if you don’t like the film, there’s only one guy to blame. He’s the writer, the director, the cinematographer and the editor, but he’s great.”

Dupieux explained the philosophy behind the film thus: “I was just making fun of Americans visiting Paris, my version of it, because what you see in Emily in Paris, for example, is not real. I don’t want to say too much, but no, there’s no message. It’s just like I’m making fun of humanity.”

Harrelson said he’d met Stewart some years back when they were considering working together on another project that ultimately didn’t pan out. “I met her when she was about 17. She had just worked with Sean Penn and he was raving about her. And then I saw the movie and she was great in that. And then we hung out.”

“It was love at first sight,” Stewart said of first seeing Harrelson in White men Can’t Jump. “I was just a little guy going, ‘God, he’s f–king cool.’ He took me to a vegan spot in the valley and we totally bro-ed down and then never got to make the movie. And so when this popped up, I was like, ‘I’ve wanted to work with this guy forever.'”

With regard to what she’s doing next, Stewart said, “I’m writing two movies right now and I’m going to go shoot this Amazon show called The Challenger. I have some balls and they’re all in the air and I think I can hold them all. I want to make two movies basically by the end of May next year, I want to be figuring out what festivals they’re going to. And they’re really different. They’re really cool. I want to make an exploitation film and I want to make it for nothing and I want to distribute it myself. I want to make something teeny-tiny and let it trickle and just not be a part of a system that doesn’t behoove me.”

Harrelson said, that in addition to upcoming Apple TV series Brothers with Matthew McConaughey, he has Jason Bateman’s Netflix film Cackling of the Dodos.

Kristen, and her production company Nevermind Pictures, has joined as executive producer on documentary 'Barbara Forever'

Kristen Stewart and her production company, Nevermind Pictures, have come on board Brydie O’Connor’s documentary “Barbara Forever” as an executive producer as Strand Releasing acquires all North American rights to the film, which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival followed by its international premiere at the Berlin Film Festival.

The film, which chronicles the life and career of filmmaker Barbara Hammer, was produced by Space Time Films with Christine Vachon and Killer Films serving as executive producer. Stewart has also joined as an executive producer, alongside Dylan Meyer and Maggie McLean, with their company Nevermind Pictures.

“Their involvement reflects a dedication to Barbara Hammer’s radical legacy of experimental and inherently political filmmaking that defiantly reshapes the way we look at cinema, queerness and ourselves,” said Strand.

Nevermind Pictures said in a joint statement, “Barbara’s work has left an immeasurable imprint on us as artists and as people. She struggled to find the acknowledgement she deserved in life, and we are sick with pride to be able to help shine a spotlight on her now.”

The distribution deal was done between Jon Gerrans of Strand Releasing and Isadora Johnson of Cinetic on behalf of the filmmakers.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Brydie and the team, this is a very special project as Barbara Hammer was a dear colleague of Strand’s as we did her first theatrical release, ‘Nitrate Kisses,’ during our formative years. Barbara was and will always be one of the artists who helped define our company,” said Gerrans.

“Strand has long been a home for the kind of bold, independent, and intimately personal cinema that Barbara helped define,” said O’Connor. “We’re so excited to be partnering with a team that not only sees the vision of the film, but understands how vital it is to bring Barbara Hammer’s artistic legacy to audiences now.”

Strand Releasing and Killer Films have previously collaborated on such acclaimed films as Nigel Finch’s “Stonewall,” Cindy Sherman’s “Office Killer” and Bruce Wagner’s “I’m Losing You.”

“ ‘Barbara Forever’ is a perfect film for Strand Releasing and Killer Films to be reunited on, it weaves together so much history that has occurred during the formation of the New Queer Cinema and our long-term friendship. ‘Barbara Forever’ captures the spirit and soul of Barbara and her legacy,” said Marcus Hu, co-president of Strand Releasing.

Strand plans for a national fall release launching with a theatrical run at Film Forum in New York on Sept. 4, before going wide.

“Barbara Forever” won the Jonathan Oppenheim Editing Award at Sundance and the Teddy Award for Best Documentary at Berlinale, and has gone on to screen at major festivals including Thessaloniki, Full Frame and Hot Docs.

It was produced by Elijah Stevens of Space Time Films, O’Connor and Claire Edelman of Killer Films. The film was co-produced by Kartemquin Films and co-executive produced by Kathryn A. Taylor and Marcela Davison Avilés of TomKat Media.

The film is represented for international sales by MetFilm Sales, who will present the title to buyers at the Marché du film at Cannes.

'The Challenger' has been greenlit at Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video has officially greenlit a limited series about Sally Ride with Kristen Stewart attached to star.

The series, titled “The Challenger,” was first reported to be in the works at the streamer back in June 2024. It is inspired by Meredith E. Bagby’s book “The New Guys.” Maggie Cohn (“The Staircase,” “American Crime Story”) is creating the series in addition to serving as executive producer and showrunner.

Kyra Sedgwick and Valerie Stadler will executive produce for Big Swing Productions, where the project was initially developed. Bagby is also an executive producer, as are Stewart, Dylan Meyer, and Maggie McLean under their Nevermind production banner. Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will executive produce for Amblin Television. James Hawes (“Slow Horses,” “Black Mirror”) will direct and executive produce.

“Meredith, Valerie, and I at Big Swing have been passionately developing this project since 2017, and we are thrilled to be partnering with Amblin and Amazon MGM Studios,” Sedgwick said. “There is no one better than Maggie Cohn to bring to life the complex story of the Challenger and the new class of astronauts recruited by NASA in the early 1970s, all through the eyes of an American hero, Sally Ride.”

The official logline for the show states:

“‘The Challenger’ tells the gripping story of one of the most defining moments in space history, both the unprecedented events leading up to the tragedy, and the shocking investigation that followed. As the members of the 1986 Rogers Commission interrogate the complex inner workings of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to find what, or who, was responsible for the Challenger’s doomed fate, the show explores Commission member Sally Ride’s (Stewart) personal journey. We follow Sally, and the rest of the diverse Astronaut Class of ’78, through the ranks of the shuttle program, through initial recruitment and training, professional and personal highs and lows, until Sally’s historic glass ceiling moment as she becomes the first American woman in space.”

“Sally Ride’s courage and brilliance changed history, and we couldn’t imagine a more powerful actor to bring her story to life than Kristen Stewart,” said Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios. “’The Challenger’ is an inspiring story about breaking barriers, and we’re thrilled to collaborate with Big Swing Productions, Amblin Television, Nevermind Pictures, Maggie Cohn, and James Hawes to share it with our global Prime Video audience.”

The series will mark the first regular TV role in Stewart’s career. She has established herself as one of the most popular actresses of her generation for her roles in acclaimed films like “Spencer” — for which she earned an Academy Award nomination — as well as for “Camp X-Ray,” “Clouds of Sils Maria,” “Seberg,” “Love Lies Bleeding,” and many more. She made her feature directorial debut in 2025 with “The Chronology of Water,” which screened in competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. She achieved early success in her career with her leading role in the “Twilight” film franchise.

The deal for the series was brokered by WME and CAA, with WME repping Amblin TV and Stewart, while CAA repped Sedgwick, Big Swing, and Cohn. Stewart is repped by WME, McKuin Frankel Whitehead, and Viewpoint. Sedgwick is repped by CAA, Range Media Partners, Origin Public Relations and Schreck Rose. Cohn is repped by CAA, 360, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. James is repped by CAA, 42MP, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole LLP.

New Project: Kristen is cast in the film 'Full Phil' directed by Quentin Dupieux

'Full Phil' is now shooting in Paris.

Directed by French director Quentin Dupieux and co-starring Woody Harrelson, Charlotte Le Bon, Emma MacKey. Nassim Lyes, Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim.

More details on the project from Variety:

Studiocanal is reteaming with French producer Hugo Selignac for Quentin Dupieux‘s star-studded next movie, “Full Phil,” which brings together Kristen Stewart and Woody Harrelson alongside Emma Mackey and Charlotte Le Bon.

Studiocanal will be handling international sales on the English-language film, which will be distributed in France by Diaphana and has been pre-bought by Canal+.

The hot project might have a “White Lotus” vibe. Harrelson stars as Philip Doom, a wealthy American industrialist who attempts to reconnect with his daughter Madeleine (played by Stewart) during a luxurious trip to Paris. “Unfortunately, French cuisine, a 1950s horror film and an intrusive hotel employee disrupt the smooth running of their stay,” reads the synopsis. Tim Heidecker and Nassim Lyes complete the cast.

While the film features American actors, it’s filming entirely in Paris with Dupieux’s regular French crew. “Full Phil” is not his English-language debut; he previously made “Rubber,” which lensed in California with a cast including Stephen Spinella.

The prolific and iconoclastic filmmaker — who was previously a successful French electronic musician and record producer — is known for his absurdist and quirky sense of humor, as well as his boldness that stands out in the French cinema landscape. His 2024 film “The Second Act,” which world premiered on the opening night of Cannes Film Festival, delivered a hilarious stab at a French actors (played by Lea Seydoux, Vincent Lindon and Louis Garrel) adjusting to the #MeToo era while filming a romantic comedy. The movie ended up being a commercial success, selling over 500,000 tickets in French theaters.

“It’s wild — Quentin’s films are extremely popular with the coolest American actors,” said Selignac, whose company Chi-Fou-Mi is part of Mediawan. “When we send them Quentin’s films, they’re struck, because when you look at American comedy today, it’s a bit dead.”

Selignac said that “‘The Second Act,’ in particular, generated a lot of excitement. Suddenly, American actors said to themselves, ‘Wait, can we still make films like this? Can we still laugh at everything? Can we still make jokes like this about women, men, minorities?'”

Dupieux’s films always feature prestigious French casts and have become a reference for young cinephiles, performing well at the local box office and selling around the world. Selignac attributes the filmmaker’s acclaim to his “talent for writing extraordinary roles and his exceptional dialogue.”

Selignac has had a win-win partnership with Studiocanal. The company has backed 13 films produced by him, including Gilles Lellouche’s “Beating Hearts” (which grossed $36 million in France) and Cedric Jimenez’s thrillers “The Stronghold” and “November.” They have also partnered on the upcoming “Dog 51,” which world premiered on the closing night of Venice Film Festival and is being theatrically released by Studiocanal on Oct. 15.

Kristen and Ben Schneider from Lord Huron talk about the 'Who Laughs Last' song and music video

Kristen Stewart makes her recorded music debut with “Who Laughs Last?” a new collaboration with the L.A.-based band, Lord Huron.

Stewart drives the song with a spoken-word monologue delivered across several verses, her noir-ish tale of a long, searching, late-night drive floating over a propulsive groove. Stewart’s vocals are interrupted only when Lord Huron frontman Ben Schneider jumps in to deliver the wailing chorus, “I’m gonna leave that city far behind and get a long, long way from there/I’ve got a burning feeling deep inside of me and don’t know where to put it.”

“I’ve always loved the band and immediately sparked to the manic drift of the song and to the mood,” said Stewart, who also stars in the “Who Laughs Last?” music video, directed by Tony Wilson. “I love when a song is something you can kind of seep into and imagine. Ben is the nicest, I was so into reading his words…there’s nothing like making new friends through projects like these that just crop up. Lucky stuff.”

Schneider said he hadn’t known Stewart before reaching out to her about a collaboration, but was a big fan of her work, especially with filmmaker Olivier Assayas (like Clouds of Sils Maria and Personal Shopper). While Schneider was working on “Who Laughs Last?” he kept hearing Stewart’s voice and thought, “What the hell, I’ll reach out and see.”

He continued: “She said she was interested so we met up and hit it off talking about books, movies and music. She immediately got what I was going for and had great ideas to boot. She’s just a great person and so creative and open. She added a lot to the video concept as well. It was the kind of collaboration you dream of, honestly.”

“Who Laughs Last?” marks Lord Huron’s first new song in two years, following “Ace Up My Sleeve,” which appeared in the 2023 film, The Starling Girl. The band’s most recent album, Long Lost, arrived in 2022.

Lord Huron haven’t announced a follow-up to Long Lost yet, but they are set to spend much of this summer on a North American tour. The trek kicks off July 18 in Indianapolis, Indiana and wraps Nov. 2 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Throughout the tour, they’ll receive support from Feist, Waxahatchee, Kevin Morby, Indigo De Souza, S.G. Goodman, and Lee Fields on select dates.

Tickets go on sale Jan. 31 at 10 a.m. local time, while an artist presale is set for Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. local time. Full info is available on Lord Huron’s website.
