Rumor: Kristen to star in 'Cali' again?
It seems that 'Cali' might be in development again (via Production Weekly). Kristen was announced in April 2012 to be starring in the project. In August 2012 Kristen dropped out of the project and it was never re-cast or done.
There is a new production company attached to 'Cali' and the 'American Ultra' director, Nima Nourizadeh, appears to be attached as director.
It appears production will start in August 2018.

Scans: Kristen in One Magazine (France)
The success of Snow White & the Huntsman confirmed that Kristen Stewart could draw the audience into a different role than Bella. Her level of popularity is still on top, but she still refuses to be locked in the codes of the classic star.
You are often described as a rebel, is it a word that defines you well?
I like the idea of being a rebel. But rebel against what? I think I stand in my way to the way we tried to model myself. I'm not trying to sound like anyone and I do not make efforts to smile at every turn. I'm natural but I must admit that it regularly puts me in trouble. I'm honnest in interviews i'm not just rehashing an already prepared speech and then I pass for a girl who complains all the time. we misinterpreted some of my statements on such twilight. And some concluded that I didn't like my role nor the Saga. But it is totally false.
Can you then tell us what is the truth once and for all?
Yes, thank you. Once and for all, I love Twilight and Bella. Nobody will defend the saga more than me. I've complained about wearing contacts for the role and said i was cold, but it doesn't mean that the shooting was a nightmare. There is also the fact that I don't spend my time smiling, but this is how i am , i'm not going to change in irder to please the critics.
You're only ten years older than the actress who plays Renesmee. Was it difficult to play a mother figure at your age?
I had a very motherly relationship with the young actress MacKenzie Foy. And, she really looks like me ! Even our hands are alike. That was strange, but it helped me picture her as my daughter. Bella and Renesmee are able to communicate trough telepathy and it really is interesting to play. Mackenzie also brought Rob's father instincts.
Why did you decide to play a porn actress in your next film?
Because the script was totally crazy ! I've always been attracted to strange things. Nick Cassavetes asked me to play in Cali and to play the role of a girl not so pure that will nonetheless try eerything in order to save her kid sister kidnapped by criminals. I'm training with a coach right now getting myself ready for the shooting. I'm going to dye my hair blonde and physically shape myself as a sexy porn star. The script is really extreme but i love to read something where identify myself as a character so different than me.
You were just chosen to be the face of Baleniaga and its new fragrance. Doyou consider yourself as a fashion icon?
Dear god no !! (laughs) I've been criticized so many times by photographers and journalists because I wasn't perfect on the red carpet. Most of the time, i don't even know the brand's name of the dress i'm wearing. The only exception is Balenciaga which i've alwas loved, because Nicolas Ghesquière's outfits are provocative and bold. But i'm more of a Tom boy lookwise. I wore my brother's clothes for a very long time. In High school I remember being harrassed because of my clothes. I didn't care about my appearence and some of the girls made me ashamed at the gym because I wasn't shaving my legs at the age of 12!
Are the Press critics affect you?
Not the one that are about my look. I'm not perfect and I don't want the public to think so. If I were on top of my game all the time, people would say : what an actress, what a liar ! I don't give a fuck about people that judge me. The other day on the SWATH red carpet I removed my heels to put sneakers on before signing autographs. That was not in order to be more confortable but to be the same size as the young girls who were there to see me. I don't want to seem to be superior to anyone. The heels look better on pictures but nevermind.
So it is false to think that you are scared of your fans?
The fans are not frightening. Each and every one of them are different and interesting. But a group of fans, it's different. In that case, it become scary, because it's like being caught by a wave that is stronger than you. The noise is deafening just like a tsunami and you know it can destroy everything on its path. You ought to be a sociopath for not being frightened and not fearing the energy directed towards you.

New interview with Kristen - on the Balenciaga fragrance & Cali (WWD)
Click for a more readable view
She is the face of Balenciaga Paris’ new women’s scent, Florabotanica, which is due out in September. Given that Stewart had never been drawn to fragrance in the past, it was an unlikely part.
“On a base level, the reason you want to wear a fragrance is because you want to smell attractive,” said Stewart, sitting in a suite of Le Bristol hotel here, wearing a Balenciaga T-shirt, shorts and heels. “That in itself is a pretty mature idea, especially considering the teenager I was. I was never the one wearing my mom’s perfume and trying to be sexy. I was like hanging out with my brothers and doing the opposite of that.
“I’m very lucky that I like the fragrance, because I would have done anything with [Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquière],” continued the 22-year-old. “And I’m a terrible liar.”
Stewart said she was relieved the first time she smelled Florabotanica.
“There is something natural about it,” explained Stewart. “It’s very alive. I think that as a young person wearing it — considering that I’ve never worn a scent — it kind of puts you on this level of, like, ‘Whoa, check me out.’ ”
Teaming with Ghesquière was like “kismet,” she said.
The designer took note of Stewart in the movie “Panic Room” and a subsequent Bruce Weber shoot for Interview magazine. “I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I would love to do something with her one day.’ She’s so Balenciaga,” said Ghesquière.
For her part, Stewart feels “lucky” and “really excited” about the scent project, since it came together naturally.
“Even though, yes, it’s an ad and we’re selling a fragrance — I don’t want to sound pretentious — but I want to be part of this art project,” she said. “I want to be around Nicolas when he gets excited about fabric. I want to see the look on his face when he sees me put on a dress.”
Florabotanica is the second major Balenciaga scent Ghesquière has worked on, after Balenciaga Paris, which came out in 2010. For the new project, executives from fragrance licensee Coty Inc. asked him to pick out part of his Balenciaga fashion and have a young consumer in mind. In 2008, Ghesquière had created a collection involving “nice” and “nasty” flowers. The idea evolved into taking a sampling from that garden.
“It’s more narrative, kind of a fantasy,” he said. “So when I thought about the fragrance and the character that would visit that garden, I thought Kristen could be the perfect beauty and the perfect personality to represent that.”
Ghesquière said Stewart is full of dualities — gorgeous and boyish — for instance.
He described the Florabotanica flacon as being like a laboratory bottle into which the striped tube can be dipped to cull the botanical garden’s extract. Similarly, the scent’s invented name is meant to have both a scientific and natural ring.
Florabotanica’s juice was created with International Flavors & Fragrances perfumers Olivier Polge and Jean-Christophe Hérault. It includes a vetiver, amber and caladium-leaf accord, and a (hybrid) rose, carnation and mint accord.
The advertising photo shoot set was decorated with 3-D metal sculptures looking like elements of a floral print Ghesquière made a couple of years ago.
“It’s the reality that looks artificial,” said Ghesquière. “I think it was quite interesting.”
In the print campaign photographed by Steven Meisel, Stewart — wearing a dress from the flower collection — stands fairly straight-legged, with her hands in her pockets.
“I think that’s kind of perfect for this particular ad. Usually, a fragrance ad would definitely be like,” said Stewart, striking an exaggerated, sexy lounge pose on the couch. “When I first stood there, I was like, ‘OK, do you want me to show the curves of the dress? Do you want me to stand like this? Like that?’ And they were like, ‘Just be comfortable.’ ”
There was no role-playing.
“I find when you do a really good photo shoot, you’ve unlocked something that you didn’t necessarily know you had in you,” said Stewart. “There are qualities that certain clothes, or certain environments and certain people, bring to the surface that can be surprising. But that doesn’t mean that they’re not authentic.”
Stewart confessed she has never really thought about her fashion style or traced a specific influence for it.
“I think the hottest chick that’s ever walked the earth is Brigitte Bardot, and I couldn’t be more different from her,” said Stewart. “So my style icons and stuff, even if I look up to them and think they’re really cool, I don’t think [they find their] way into my own sense of fashion.”
Stewart enjoyed what she wore in “On the Road.”
“Everything…was delicately chosen,” said Stewart. “Danny Glicker designed that movie.”
Up next, actingwise, is a leading role in “Cali,” directed by Nick Cassavetes. She explained it’s about a couple “in the valley that gets involved with really strange people, really screw themselves over and become alienated, reinsert themselves into that world and try to survive. It’s really ‘Grindhouse’-y — extreme in every way.”
To physically prepare for the part, Stewart will become tan and make her hair blonde.
“I’m going to get into the best shape of my life,” she said. “I’m going to look like a stripper. I’m going to look like a porn star.”
Stewart will also try to climb into the character’s psyche.
“If you don’t know why someone is the way that they are, then you’re just playing a caricature of a girl,” she explained. “So if an emotional scene comes up or something, I never want to lie. I don’t want to think about my cat dying when I was younger.”
For her, acting is all about self-discovery.
“A lot of times, you’ll read a script and you can identify with things that are very surprising, things that kind of shock you about yourself. And the process of making the movie is finding out why those feelings occurred,” said Stewart. “Sometimes they’re not always easy to define.”

Kristen's "Cali" finds Director in Nick Cassavetes
Nick Cassavetes ("The Notebook") will direct the gritty action pic "Cali," in which Kristen Stewart is set to star.
Voltage Prods. and New School Media are producing the Michael Diliberti-scripted pic, which follows a pair of San Fernando Valley lovebirds who sell a fake snuff film and ride off with a bundle of cash. Years later, the girl (Stewart) must "return from the dead" to save the younger sister she left behind.
Craig J. Flores ("300") and Zev Foreman ("Killer Joe") will produce for Voltage, while Diliberti will also produce. His manager, Brian Levy of New School Media, will exec produce with Voltage co-owner Nicolas Chartier and Stewart, who will pick up her first producing credit on the project.
Diliberti developed the script on spec before it was acquired by Voltage, which attached Stewart. Voltage will be selling the film at the Cannes Film Market, and producers are anticipating a late summer start.
"Nick's the perfect director for this gritty, L.A.-based story and will smartly balance the dynamic action with a true love story. Nick's record of working with top talent continues here in his collaboration with Kristen Stewart," Foreman said.
Cassavetes is best known for directing the hit Nicholas Sparks adaptation "The Notebook," as well as the true crime tale "Alpha Dog." He most recently wrapped "Yellow," which he co-wrote with his wife Heather Wahlquist, who also stars in the indie drama. Cassavetes is an actor as well, and he most recently appeared in Todd Phillips' comedy "The Hangover Part II."
Cassavetes is repped by ICM.

Kristen to star and produce "Cali"
"Snow White and the Huntsman" star Kristen Stewart is set to topline "Cali," a gritty action pic set in Los Angeles that will be produced by Voltage Productions and New School Media.
Michael Diliberti ("30 Minutes or Less") wrote the script, which follows Mya (Stewart) and Chris, a pair of San Fernando Valley lovebirds with a penchant for bad choices and dangerous behavior. After selling a fake snuff film featuring Mya, they ride off into the sunset with a bundle of cash. Years later, Mya must "return from the dead" to save the younger sister she left behind in Cali, where the young couple contends with angry former business partners, homicidal porn stars, stoner vet techs, an unstoppable killing machine in a cowboy hat and their own contentious relationship.
Craig J. Flores ("300") and Zev Foreman ("Killer Joe") will produce for Voltage, while Diliberti will also produce. His manager, Brian Levy of New School Media, will exec produce with Voltage topper Nicolas Chartier ("The Hurt Locker") and Stewart, who will pick up her first producing credit on the project.
Diliberti developed the script on spec before it was acquired by Voltage, which attached Stewart. Producers are currently out to directors and they're anticipating a late summer start date.
"Kristen is a talented and dynamic actor, with a proven box office draw," said Flores. "Her role in 'Cali' will be edgy and sexy. It will no doubt push the envelope on the public's view of Kristen's wide-ranging abilities. Voltage is thrilled to have her as a partner on this fantastic film."
"Cali" marks a return to indie fare for Stewart, who has balanced the "Twilight" franchise pics like "Welcome to the Rileys," "The Runaways" and Walter Salles' upcoming adaptation of "On the Road." Thesp next stars in Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" and the final installment in "The Twilight Saga," which Summit will release on Nov. 16.
Diliberti is coming off the seven-figure spec sale to GK Films of comedy "Little White Corvette," which has Emma Stone attached to star. Scribe is also writing a Fox 2000 project for "Crazy, Stupid, Love" helmers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra that Simon Kinberg is producing, a Sony pic for Seth Gordon that Matt Tolmach is producing and a Warner Bros. movie for Todd Phillips with his Green Hat Films banner producing.
Voltage, which produced Kathryn Bigelow's Oscar winner "The Hurt Locker," is currently in pre-production on Shia LaBeouf-starrer "The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman" and post-production on Robert Redford's political action-thriller "The Company You Keep," which also stars LaBeouf.
Stewart is repped by Gersh and McKuin, Frankel and Whitehead, while WME and New School Media reps Diliberti.
