The launch of Chanel’s new perfume, Gabrielle Chanel, drew many of the faces who had been at the house’s couture show earlier in the day, including Kristen Stewart, Pharrell Williams, and Katy Perry. Guests were welcomed to the Palais de Tokyo through a sensorial labyrinth with a play of light, reflections, 3-D images of the elegant and delicate bottle, and scents of jasmine, orange blossom, ylang-ylang, and tuberose—the fragrance’s four key white flowers.
A video titled “Gabrielle, The Quest for Freedom” was on constant repeat at the foot of a staircase, which led to several installations that had been set up for the occasion. The video contained catchy mantras: “Enjoy life to the fullest just as Gabrielle did / Choose your destiny even if you have to reinvent your path / If you were born without wings don’t do anything to stop them from growing.” Meanwhile, fashion illustrator Talia Zoref was on hand and busy creating aquarelle sketches for guests to take home.
Kristen Stewart, the face of the perfume, said she was honored to represent this “seductive, streetwise, and quintessentially Parisian” fragrance. “There is an essence to Paris that is incredibly itself and authentic and also steeped in a lot of history,” the actress remarked. When asked if she has any tricks to dressing like a Parisian, she replied, “This is going to sound slightly ridiculous, but [I like to wear] my little black Chanel jacket, as well as my metallic bag—although I’m not really a bag person!”
