Garrett Hedlund mentions working with Kristen & some details on "On the Road" at LAFF

Garrett and Kristen came out to support Chris Weitz at his premiere for A Better Life Tuesday night at the Los Angeles Film Festival, and while Stewart didn’t do any interviews, Celebuzz snagged Garrett for a hot second.

Here is what he had to say about the status of the film, and working with pal Kristen.

Hedlund was on the arm of his On the Road producer Rebecca Yeldham, who is also the director of the Los Angeles Film Festival. Garrett has been with her throughout LAFF, and the two played coy when we tried to get the status of the flick.
“
You are just going to have to ask the producer I have with me,” smiled Garrett, looking at Rebecca.

“Let’s see, well the status is we are in post-production, I can’t really say much more. Except that [the movie] is awesome,” Yeldham replied.

Possibly putting two and two together (since the utterly fantastic film by Weitz A Better Life was done by Summit), we asked if Summit snagged the rights to On the Road, since Hedlund showed his support Tuesday.

“Umm,” laughed Garrett again playing coy. “It’s all in discussion,” chimed in Rebecca, with a knowing smile. “We haven’t made any decisions yet.”

As for working with Kristen, Garrett said the experience was “wonderful.”

“She’s a great actress, she’s awesome. It was a lot of fun.”

“They all love each other. We all love each other,” laughed Rebecca. “Hopefully we can tell you all more soon!”

Garrett Hedlund talks about Kristen and 'On the Road': "She's so good and she's so devoted."

Garrett Hedlund is a man of (not) many words.

Even so, I did get the chance to chat with him at the Maui Film Festival, where he was honored with the Rising Star Award.

Yes, Twi-hards, we talked about his On The Road costar Kristen Stewart...

"The great thing about being a great actress is you can do everything and I think she can do anything she wants," Hedlund said when I asked about Stewart's upcoming turn as Snow White.

He laughed when I joked about him hitting her up for a Twilight gig. "No, I never asked her for a part," he said. "Which part would I ask her for?" As Hedlund first told me in December, "[Stewart] was signed on to the movie before the first Twilight ever hit theaters. She's so good and she's so devoted. She's such an incredibly hard worker."

In the pic, based on Jack Keourac's Beat Generation classic of the same name and directed by Walter Salles, Hedlund plays the character based on the late Neal Cassady. Hedlund and Salles recently met Carolyn Cassady, Neal's second wife. "It was an era that changed so many people's lives in the last 50 years or so," Hedlund said. "It was a movement that was powerful and I feel so privileged to be a part of the film."

Casting update for 'Snow White & the Huntsman': Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins as dwarfs

From left to right: Bob Hoskins, Eddie Izzard, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan and Steven Graham.

There are no small parts in Hollywood. But these days there are plenty of dwarf roles to go around.

Universal is ramping up its casting of the warrior dwarfs in its high-profile Snow White and the Huntsman action adventure movie, with Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins and Toby Jones in negotiations to board the movie.

Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) and Steven Graham are in negotiations to play dwarves in the film as well.

The project, being directed by Rupert Sanders, is a revisionist take on the fairy tale and features Snow White (Kristen Stewart) as a princess who escapes her evil stepmother (Charlize Theron) with the help of a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) who was to have killed her but now trains the princess to survive and fight back.

As Heat Vision first reported Monday, Ian McShane was cast as the dwarf leader. The dwarf names are veering mightily away from the well-known Disney version, with McShane as Caesar, Jones as a timid dwarf named Claudius and Izzard will be Tiberius, described as the biggest and burliest of the crew. Hoskins will play Constantine, a blind dwarf.

Stephen Moyer from 'True Blood' mentions Kristen

GM: What do you make of the current vampire craze? It really shows no sign of abating.

SM: It doesn’t seem to be abating. It’s one of those unanswerable questions because when you think it’s one thing, it turns out to be another. … I think in the teen world, there’s a beautiful romance about that stuff. I believe this year the Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart characters [in the "Twilight" saga] have a baby. It’s this perfect romance, this perfect ideal. Ours isn’t quite as fluffy as that … our characters and the way that Alan works is, as soon as a character has a semblance of happiness, he digs a hole for them to drive into.

Ian McShane cast as Caesar, leader of the dwarfs, in 'Snow White & the Huntsman'

Heigh-ho, heigh-ho, it’s off to Snow White and Huntsman that Ian McShane will go.

The actor, currently seen on screen as Blackbeard in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, has signed to play one of the dwarfs in Universal’s Snow White adventure movie.

The movie is on track for an August production start. Universal will release the film in theaters June 1, 2012.

McShane will play Caesar, the leader of the dwarfs. Universal is in the process of casting the rest of his crew. With Universal and Relativity Media racing separate Snow White projects into theaters next year (Relativity's untitled project also is ramping up production and is currently set to hit theaters in March), there could be serious competition to find strong character actors to fill the roles.
