Kristen to receive the Maverick Award at the Indiewire Honors event on December 4 in Los Angeles

IndieWire, the definitive outlet for creative independence in film and TV, announced on Wednesday, November 13 the lineup for the Winter 2025 edition of its IndieWire Honors event, dedicated entirely to film. Curated and selected by IndieWire’s editorial team, IndieWire Honors is a celebration of the filmmakers, actors, and artisans responsible for some of the most exciting cinematic works this year.

The event will take place on Thursday, December 4 in Los Angeles, commencing with an intimate cocktail reception and awards ceremony. Exclusive editorial content, including honoree profiles, will also be featured on IndieWire.com beginning Friday, November 28 and will continue throughout the lead-up to the awards night. Throughout the night, into the next day IndieWire will publish exclusive social content and video interviews from the event. The event’s host will be announced at a later date.

“We’re thrilled to toast such an eclectic group of Honorees this awards season and are especially excited to honor cinematography as part of our ongoing commitment to elevating and celebrating top talent in the craft community,” says IndieWire SVP and Publisher James Israel.

“These artists are doing work that matters,” said Dana Harris-Bridson, IndieWire’s senior VP and editor-in-chief. “They’re taking risks and finding new ways to tell stories. That’s what IndieWire Honors is about—recognizing the people moving the industry forward.”

Kristen Stewart – Maverick Award

What others work so hard toward, actress and filmmaker Kristen Stewart seems to arrive at effortlessly. With a mix of ethos and intuition, she has walked a singular path with twists and turns that resulted in her both leading several blockbuster franchises, and becoming an arthouse darling that received an Oscar nomination for her performance in “Spencer,” and became the first American actress to win France’s César Award for her supporting role in “Clouds of Sils Maria.” Long a champion of female directors, starring in films like “The Runaways,” “Certain Women,” and “Love Lies Bleeding,” Stewart makes her feature directorial debut this year with “The Chronology of Water,” an adaptation of Lidia Yuknavitch’s 2011 memoir of the same name. Premiering in Un Certain Regard at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the coming of age drama is the bold announcement of a rising filmmaker who has a clear idea of the artistic boundaries she’s set on breaking.
