Kristen Stewart is only weeks away from leaving behind the world of vampires and werewolves. But with the final "Twilight" film set to hit theaters on the evening of Nov. 15, the actress says she’s not shedding tears over the franchise’s end.

"I’m so ready to walk away," the 22-year-old said Saturday at a gala screening of what will be her first post-"Twilight" release, "On the Road." "I lived in that world for so long. The story's over. And it's not going anywhere."

Stewart certainly veers far away from the chaste image of "Twilight's" Bella Swan in "On the Road" — an adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s famous novel — which shows the actress half-nude. She first read the novel as a teenager and said the story resonated with her because she was at a point in her life where she was discovering her free will.

The actress and many of her costars even embarked on their own road trips to prepare for the film. Garrett Hedlund, who plays Stewart's character's husband, said he traveled everywhere from Canada to Chile to New Orleans before filming got underway. His favorite memory from the road?

"Probably any time we broke down," said Hedlund, 28. "One time, we were two hours outside of New Mexico and we called to get the car fixed, but the mechanic would have to shut down his shop to get to us and it would take him two hours to get to us. So we just laid down on the blacktop and waited for him to arrive."

Hedlund and Stewart were so enamored with “On the Road” that the young actors stayed attached to the project even though it took three years to get off the ground. When Stewart signed on to the movie, she was 17 and said the book made her feel then as it does now: That she doesn't "want to accept anything that [is] easy."

"It’s like, 'No, I kind of think that life should kind of be a little bit terrifying.' And if you can ... take it — it's a lot more fulfilling."

"On the Road" opens in limited U.S. release on Dec. 21.
